Maybe some of you read about the situation with my sister. It started some time ago. You can read more about it in this post:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=61 Anyway, she's had her ups and downs. The otehr day she had a pretty bad seizure and now the left side of her body has a bit of a twitch sometimes. I know many people have gone through things like this with loved ones. The hardest part is not being able to do anything about it. I mean we can show our love and support but we can't wave a magic wand and make the cancer go away. OR CAN WE?!! I have an idea and I want to run it by you all just to see what you think of it. Rather then me sitting back and doing nothing. If this idea will work at least I'll have a tiny bit of pride in knowing something good might come out of something as terrible as what my sister, my family and millions of other people out there are goig through while battling cancer. Here's my idea: I'd like to create an magic insructional E-book full of tricks from various magicians. I'll ask all those magic creators I know if they'll join in on this. I'll ask them if they'll submit a trick, routine, essay and so forth. They'll have to be original tricks. If not original the originator needs to give them permission (common ethics). In other words I wouldn't put instructions on how to do the jumping rubberband in there. Anyway, this E-book compiled of real world magic will be sold on line and all money will go straight to a cancer charity. I haven't worked that part out yet but what I'm hoping is the money will go strait to them. I don't want it to be a matter of me or anyone else having to forward the money. I'll see if there's possibly a paypal charity method. I'll start looking into that. Hopefully I'll find a cancer charity place that accepts paypal/credit card on line and talk to them about it. For now this is just an idea. What do you think? Ron Jaxon |

Sounds great! Now if I could only invent an original trick, I'd be all set!
Just to let you know, I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Cancer is a terrible disease to die from. My mother went through it and, unfortunately, never made it.

Thank you.
My sisters still battling it but it's still tough to see her go through it. I'll see what can be worked out for this E-book. Ron Jaxon |

Great idea Ron. My mom died from cancer when I was 16 yrs. old. It was a long time ago and they have come far in treating it, but there is still a long way to go.
Keep us posted!

The problem is finding the right place to set up the charity process? It's hard to tell which ones are trustworthy or not.
Does anyone have any suggestions? There seems to be a lot of "Charity" sites on line but I can't tell which ones are actually going to get the money to the right place. I'd like all sales of this E-book to go directly to them as a donation. If they accept paypal (I think that would be the bast way because they'll be able to purchase with paypal or CC). The money for that E-book sale will go directly to them. Not to me then I forward it to them. But directly to them. If they have a paypal account then a service like payloadz can instantly forward the E-book. If it came down to it I could send the E-books out manually but an instant way would be better. I've done some looked and sent some Emails out. No replies yet. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears (eyes in my case. ). Ron Jaxon |

There is another thread that talks about a bizarre magic eBook that Dale A. Hildebrandt is putting together that would benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Here's the thread:

I've got quite a list of magicians who said they'd be happy to submit somehting into this E-book. So once it's complied it'll have some great material with real world tricks and information.
Now I'm trying to find the best pllace to set the system up. I want ot make sure it goes to an orginisation that'll do the most good. I'd imagine there are a lot of scam charities out there so I'lll hav eot be careful. Once I find the right one I'll see if I can set it up so that all purchases go directly to them as a donation. I'll keep you all informaed. Thanks for the encouragement. Ron Jaxon |

This is a great idea. I'd be willing to contribute something, if I could put something together...(I love creating effects) that's worthy of a book. PM me sometime with more info and a deadline that you need the effect by.

If you're still trying to figure out where to have the money go, well, I just checked and the Karmanos Institute does take donations. (They do bunch of research. Actually, their guy in charge of molecular biology happens to be a friend of our family.) Not saying this is the only decent place, but they are a known cancer research center, so there's at least one place you can safely assume isn't a scam.
Sorry I don't really have any ideas for effects to offer, am more a beginner.. If it's okay to suggest this though, maybe try to be a bit selective as to the "theme" of the magic in the book? ie, for this specific thing, try to focus specifically on "feel good" magic? (ie, your idea is a fantastic idea, so why not let it do even more good. Have it contain the type of magic such that the presentations in it would be the type that would be a good idea for a volunteer to go and perform for patients.) |

Try the american cancer society. I'm sure they would help in this matter. I'd buy this in a hurry...cancer is a disease without words to describe it's impact.

Thanks for the suggestions, support and input guys.
I have thought about what Psy-Kosh said about being selective about the kind of material to put in the E-book. If there are tricks that fall in the "feel good" catagory. Or tricks taht might have a message about cancer then that would be great. I'm debating about putting my cigarette trick Outsmokin in it. I know that might seem silly to put a cigarette trick in an E-book for canceer but if you know the trick you'll understand that it can be performed with a "no smoking" message. I'm not sure if that'll work yet but it's something I'm thinking about. I could write a presentaiton for it. But the main thing I want as far as the material is that it has to be real world material. When someone purchases it I want them to know they did something good for cancer but also say that the material in the book is worth picking up. So if any of you do have something you'd like to submit into this E-book my main guide lines are that they are original and real world material. Some pretty big names in magic have told me to let them know when everything is ready and they'll have something to submit to it. So I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I'm working on it. I'll keep you all informed. Thanks again. Ron Jaxon |
