Hello,
Can anyone help? Where would I buy a Magicians Tux (Professional), or what will be the best way of getting to one - custom tailored? Where? How? Also what about a hat? Are there any good places for nice professional top hats? I’m in Miami Thanks, Jaime

Hey Jaime! How are you doing? How are your doves?
Well, when I used to work in a magic shop (1000 years ago) we always went to a Tuxedo rental shop and bought ours for excellent prices. (Yes, I used to wear a guy's tuxedo to work every day! Hey, all my magician role models were guys...what can I say.)These shops sell their used tuxedos after they have been rented a few times. My husband has three and he bought all his on E-bay for a great price! Check it out and do a search. The tuxedos have adjustable tabs to make the waist larger or smaller. You can have the pants and/or sleeves lengthened or shortened at a dry cleaning establishment. One last thought: Black tuxedos are for formal evening events and gray tuxedos are for daytime events, although I think you can really get away with anything being a magician! Let me know how this works out for you! Autumn
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Check out the tuxedo shops (e.g. President Tuxedo, etc.). Even though they mostly rent they also have them to buy, and sometimes they run some pretty good deals. I bought a nice new tuxedo for about $200.

My tuxedo and Tail coat both came from Al's. They both do their job just fine.

Jamie,
In Miami, the better men's shops carry both black tie (short coat) and white tie (tail coat) tuxedos. The pants with adjustable waist tabs are for rentals. The front pockets on those are made differently and will often "hang" as you put things in and out of the pocket. You will also find that many of the ones from rental stock are not wool. (If you work at all with fire, wool is safer.) A good tux is a good investment but usually costs less than a good suit. For $350 you can be be pretty choosy. Enjoy! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Yes! Like the ladies, after you buy your new tux, you'll need new shoes too! (Some how they enjoy that more than we do.) |

If you have a Syms in your area, they usually have a large selection of reasonably priced tuxedos: http://www.syms.com/.
