I found this DVD advertised by International Magic in Genii's April 2007 issue. I would appreciate any reviews specially in the effects with coins.
Will Houstoun Lecture DVD This is Will Houstoun’s first lecture and we are proud to have him added to our range. He begins with a very clean Coin Production and ‘3 Fly’. Followed by ‘Special K’, a really neat presentation of the ‘Inversion’ card trick. There’s some finger manipulations that Meir Yedid would be most proud of. An ultra clean ‘4 Ace Production’ accompanied by music, Will then gives tips on how to put music to your magic. The ‘Blank Deck’ routine is a progressive printing of cards, first the 4 aces materialise in a very magical way, then the whole pack prints followed by a super surprise finish! The ‘Fire Coins’ is a flash production of coins from candle wax, beautiful magic. ‘Guestimation’ is a stunning cutting the aces from a genuinely shuffled deck (based on Ed Marlo’s ‘Miracle Aces’), this is one you’ll be sure to use. ‘Bakers Three Fly’ is superbly shown with lots of touches. His version of ‘Shadow coins’ is just exquisite with a resulting gasp from the audience. There’s the bonus of footage of Will’s performance in the Close up Show. All this plus tips on ‘Coin Production’, ‘C-Palm’, ‘Thumb Fan’, ‘Ascanio Spread’, ‘Fake Placement’ among many others. To many people, Will Houstoun is going to be a new name in magic, but we’re sure having watched this lecture, you’ll agree with us that his future in magic is very bright! I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks Joaquin |

Hi,
You don't seem to be having much luck with replies! So while I am not the best person to give any sort of review on the material on the DVD, if there are any questions I can answer about any of it I will do my best as I have seen the DVD and am fairly familiar with the material! Will |

Thanks
Are you Will Houston ? Regardless, I just want to know if the coin routines are different of commercial routines such as 3 fly and coins through the table. I am also courious about your french drop version. Is is very different than what you find in Bobos. Finally I like routines that require a lot of manipulation. Is this the case to perfom the routines as they mentioned in the promotion or is more about card manipulation. The reason I am asking all this is that I have purchase tons of videos and dvd on coins and just a few are very unique. A lot are some sort of repetition or a minor variation of a standard routine. I would like just to have a little more feedback about what is included. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks Joaquin |

Hi Joaquin,
In terms of the coin routines on the DVD there are no completly unique plots but there are quite a few plots which are modified and come across as different because of the modifications. Moves wise there are quite a few that I think are new and new. In terms of difficulty I would expect it would take a little work to get some of it going although some is pretty streight forward. I will give you a little more on the coin stuff on the DVD. Flipper Fly - A three fly routine usign a gaff (no prizes for guessing which one) that allows a particularly nice vannish and some very clean moments in a three fly sequence. Fire Coins - Three coins appear and then vannish from a candle flame. The use of flash paper is motivated in this routine in a way I have not seen before. Bakers Three fly - A visible coins across using 4 coins. This routine keeps the visibility of a tradtional 3 fly style routine while adding some variety in the ways the coins go. It also has a different feel in terms of the effect to a traditional 3 fly. Bouncing Shadows - This is my handling of shadow coins in a three phase routine, it is designed so there are no ungainly transfers of hidden coins and there is no re-adjustment of the coins between phases with each phase leading to the next smoothly. That covers the routines, in terms of the moves there are a couple of vannishes I am particularly pleased with (one complete the others in the context of multiple coin handling) and some utility gaff handling techniques that I think are a little different and use alot. Hope that helps and let me know if there is something else you would like to know. Will |

Will lectured at our club in Cork a few months ago and it was a GREAT lecture.
I'm more into cards and haven't really done much coin magic as of yet but there is some very nice coin routines on the DVD (as well as god card magic!!). He has a lovely flourishy way of setting up a flipper coin that looks VERY natural and totally flies. The DVD is Recommended!! |
