I bought this effect by Paul Harris a long time ago. I got it to use in my show, but I didn't like the envelope that came with the effect. When I lived in Germany I have seen these types of small inventation size envelopes. But you just don't see people using them in the USA.
Has anyone have any idea to make this work using something else? The effect is; You remove a flat, invitation-size envelope from your pocket and dump out an "invisible deck". You direct a spectator to freely "destroy" these imaginary cards until only a single card remains. Let's say the Queen of Diamonds. The spectator tosses the invisible Queen of Diamonds toward the envelope. You. then slowly and cleanly remove the "one & only " card in the envelope. It's the spectator's "one & only" Queen of Diamonds. The Envelope is clearly seen to contain no other cards after the "one & only" card is removed http://www.ronjo.com/thestore/prods/onenonly.html Seems that this would be what mentalism is about. I want to do it using maybe a normal size envelope or something! Will the Ostin Clip work? Have the back of a card showing and after the person names their card you REMOVE it from the bulldog clip. I don't have the Ostin Clip so I am just guessing if it will work with a card. Any ideas? Ray Noble |

Lose the gimmicks and outs: Greg Arce's 'Scorch' from Deep Thought, Derren Brown's 'Invisible Deal' from The Devil's Picturebook, or Paul Harris' 'Hedonists Make All the Rules' from The Art of Astonishment.

Malchat covered most of it! GREAT response. I used to work in a shop, long ago, and had forgotten about this effect. Thanks for the memory MD.

But, I do have The Devil's Picture book and know what you are talking about. Matter of fact I have combined Out of Sight Out of Mind from Sean Fields with Derren brown’s Invisible Card. They are the same type of effect so I joined them to work better (for me) But we are now talking about a different effect then what I asked about. I would like to be able to do both effects. Invisible Card ends with the spectator holding their thought of card. Where the One and Only is a prediction that is made before the effect starts. IMO they are really the same type of effect only dress differently. Thanks for writing! Quote:

No kidding, "Scorch" does just what you want. Your entire prop list: a playing card. For classier venues, put it in an envelope.
Malchat brought this to my attention not long ago and Greg was kind enough to contact me about the effect. It is a thing of beauty. "No moving parts!" as Barrie Richardson loves to say. Best, BB |

Ray,
If you have Paramiracles just make three kismet envelopes and go from there. James

Hi Xiqual,
Double-X from Sean Feilds has an envelope in it that may work. I am still waiting for Paramiracles! LOL Looks like I will have to get Greg Arce's 'Scorch' from Deep Thought! Guys! You are costing me money! Ray |

The money will return threefold.

Hi Ray. Not to answer your original question or anything but there were some great posts here:
Malchat's choice of routines aren't MY cup of tea, but his base suggestion certaily is! Take suggestions from a LOT of sources and combine it to make a one-card-out that works for just you. (and back it up with an Heirloom or KK if you are getting PAID for performing it!) Kidding aside, there is no greater thrill than givng them a piece of paper with the name of a playing card written on it that they will SWEAR later they freely thought of themselves..... I, too, at one time explored every concievable notion/effect surrounding the KK theme that I could as I was enthralled with the idea. The One & Only was also looked at, as were the effects Malchat suggested in the second post in this thread. None suited ME, but I am sure they inspired or at least backed up ideas I already had. I am including in a small booklet of mentalism effects I hope to release this summer my humble version of the "grail" for these type of effects: a one card, no outs, KK-type routine. It borrows a litle on Knepper and David Greene (from Killer Conceptions fame, with his permission) and I have no doubts with a lot of research and real-world trial and error you will come up with a routine that suits you. Thanks, Bryn
