I watched the demo and was more confused than anything.

Its a great trick, the demo is a little fuzzy but the tears are a lot less exaggerated. you cant really tell that he's tearing it up in the demo, but in the explanation, its great. I would suggest it, and its impromptu so it can be a lifesaver in a show. And the setup really only takes 20 seconds, a bit longer when your learning, but I just got it and I mostly got it down.
Great trick tho!

The online demo is horrible. But it's Harlan, so the effect should be good.

I'm sorry, but that demo looked like a joke to me!
The quality was horrible, and the effect looked like it was his first time performing it. I know Harlan's work, and I know he's very good, but this just disapointed me! Just do the extra work and use the Anderson T&R Newspaper! I have hundreds of set-up Anderson T&R's in my closet that I made in one weekend. =] -Vinnie |

Is this different from Pat Page's No Tape, No Glue, No Scissors, 10-second Setup Torn & Restored Newspaper?
Other than it takes twice as long to set up? I believe it came out as a Trick-A-Tape and later on the Pat Page "On Stage" video. |

In the demo he could've slabbed a bunch of glue on the papers and I wouldn't have noticed.

I'm sorry but that was one ugly demo. I'll stick with Joel Bauer's newspaper tear. It's quick, easy, and 1 gimmick can last for several performances

Im a huge fan of Dan's work BUT...This demo is just BIZARRO...
Also he knocks Gene Anderson a bit and in his See Saw vid he knocks Paul Harris a bit.....Whats up with that?... In both effects he claims his new version is better. And how long has he had the Travis Bickle haircut? |

I agree with most of the posts here, poor quality video, too much fishing around with the paper and he should've given the restored newspaper back to the guy he took it from.

I don't understand why he's walking down the street doing this, either...?
Can't appreciate the effect from watching the demo video. Confusion. |

Sadly the demo does not do the trick justice. Dan and Penguin magic are focusing on their demographic and trying to make an edgy “street magic” looking demo to suck in those 13 to 17 year olds that don’t think of magic as entertaining people.
Frankly, if Dan has just stood still and performed the trick would have not been as sloppy or as muddied. But remember the target audience. There is absolutely no new ground broken here. Osterlinds signed newspaper tear (less than 20 seconds to set up for 10 shows/tears) is leap years ahead in effect, wow factor, and set-up. Pat Page covered the ground better (and with less set-up time). And for the “impromptu” version simply go to Harry Lorayne’s book “The Magic Book” (in youth sections of your library) and see his impromptu torn and restore paper for a workable methodology. This version is for the kids that haven’t been around magic, don’t have a library of tapes and/or books, and don’t have a background in the basics. Maybe it’s good, but for the money there are any number of easy to set-up versions (Barry’s, Page‘s, Saxton‘s, Bauer’s, Osterlind’s, etc.) that are proven and look better and are easier to handle than this thing. Sometimes "easier" isn't better.

It looks like this has been taken down already, because I can't find it. Or am I just a moron?

It seems that it was taken down ("product discontinued" message) just five minutes after I posted! I had a link up and when I refreshed it, "poof" no demo and no product!

It's a good thing for Dan that this was removed. He's a wonderfully creative guy, but this kind of poor production and presentation will damage his reputation in the magic community.
