Doesn't Kaufman, the publisher, still sell it ?

Richard Hatch has it in stock: http://www.magicbookshop.com/product_inf......_id=9359
I searched on Kaufman & Co. site and "Strong Magic" is no longer listed. I also couldn't locate it at Murphy's Magic. |

This is really ridiculous already.
"Strong Magic" recommended by nearly everybody in every forum, all the time. Yet I have seen this happen repeatedly: 1. "Strong Magic" is out of print. People everywhere are trying to get ahold of a copy, even paying silly prices on Ebay. 2. "Strong Magic" comes back into print. It *very slowly* sells out, available for a year or two on every decent magic site and in all good magic shops. 3. "Strong Magic" becomes hard to find. People suddenly develop an urgent need to finally own a copy, and can't find it. Repeat 1-3, forever. |

I'm a little baffled myself, since as Shawn notes, this book was just reprinted a year or two ago. Either there was a great demand or an inadequate print run, or both.
But I agree it's an excellent book that needs to remain available, right up there with Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic," the Tarbell Course and similar classics. At $40, it's not cheap and contains no magic tricks, but it's about the best textbook on presentation, misdirection and other necessary skills that you will ever see. SETH

If all the people claiming to want to buy it now had actually purchased it when it came back into print, it would have sold out right after being reprinted. This isn't limited to "Strong Magic," either. There are so many times when nobody wants a book that's available, but everybody wants that book when they hear it's out of print. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have no sympathy for anyone who "just missed it." If they really wanted it, they would have bought it over a year ago. Yeah, yeah, there may be a few people who have just heard about it -- new people join the magic world every day. But for the most part, it's a bunch of people jumping on the "out of print" bandwagon simply because a book is out of print, not because they are interested in the contents. |

OK. So I really do not want a copy of Marlo's M.I.N.T. Volume I or Minch's (Nash's) Ever So Sleightly.
<Holds his breath to see if they suddenly come into print/> Just kidding. It amazed me that this tome was no longer available, as I purchased a copy within the past six months. I guess I, too, grow comfortable at the availability of items. Great book, if sometimes maddening in its opinions. I guess the best bet would be to query the publisher and add it to your wish list at your favorite shops. (Sometimes businesses speak louder than consumers.) Perhaps, if you really want to cross the line, you could contact Mr. Ortiz himself. I would hope that he has some say in the re-prints. Good luck in you quest. |

Ah yes, this frenzied buying phase seems to have overwhelmed many UK citizens as regards Derren Brown's two magic books, which have now been discontinued forever. Man, am I glad I've already read them, and can borrow them from the library resource at any time.

I have to admit that the words OUT OF PRINT creates the urge in me to hunt down one of the remaining ones in the market.

Apparently H&R has several. Their catalog shows when there is only a small quantity of an item left (ex. Only 3 Left!). This does not show for Strong Magic so if you want it there are still some available.

There are still some left in the market - at least last week when I was looking around. You might also want to contact Darwin directly, he might have some in stock.
