The new futuristic digital photo frames are truly amazing.
Maybe we can use them in our craft as a new kind of tool? Examples. http://www.edgetechcorp.com/accessories/......rame.asp http://www.ceiva.com/ Brainstorm! |

Someone posted about a new mens wallet from Brookstone that includes a digital picture frame and was thinking the same thing.
For example, take a picture of yourself holding a certain card, force it on someone and then reveal it in the picture. Lot's of possibilities. Mark. |

These have been out for a few years... you think they are expensive now, they were 3 times as much at first. I have two and they play pictures as well as video. Great for setting up at your table if you sign pics or sell things after your shows.
Here is a keychain that would work for walkaround. http://cgi.ebay.com/1-1-DIGITAL-USB-PHOT......ViewItem |

I have doubt about that tool. Really impressive but due to the fact that the picture changes, they will try to find a gimmick and will see the nature of the frame. But I don't really lots of thing about the resolution of the picture because I'm from france and we don't have the last technologies ...

The frames are readily available at Wal-Mart now in the US. They are still a bit expensive and small sizes for my taste currently but the price has been dropping on them.

The magic would be in displaying a photo that the spectators can't imagine where it came from. Fred Goode has done some work along these lines in his "Psychic Photos" in The Wizards' Journal #9, on my site. In one of his effects, the spectator sees herself in a photo, but has no memory of when or where it was taken. It can be superimposed over a card freely chosen just moments before, but it can also be taken much further, as some of us have been discussing. One interesting idea is that the spectator sees herself (this always works best with women - they tend to scream a lot) standing in front of a house she once lived in or surrounded by people she knew long ago. The technology is there and only needs to be applied, but it's not for the mail-order or magic-store magician.

What I mean is, you show a photo of your old uncle or your psychic daughter. After a little byplay you start the routine, get the information or force the object. inside the digital frame are actually many photos of the same person with only one small difference in each one. After you know what the target is, you change the phot while you are moving it to show the person.
Examples could be: a picture on the wall in the background. The person is holding something a cloud is shaped strangely another person is in the background holding an object above main subjects head. The possibilities are endless. James ps I do think it is a bit tiresome that Spellbinder seems to find a way to mention his products in almost every thread. Buy an ad for cryin out loud. I'm sure a show of hands would agree with me.

There was a sale on some digital frames the other day and I was also thinking about magic/mentalism applications. A modern take on the card frame that can be left out, ready at a moment's notice? ...or some other kind of transformation. But it would probably have to be somewhat tongue in cheek; it would take only a second to realize the technology.

I have a couple of them. I use them for my photography business. They are really worth the money. The picture can be set to change every 5 sec/30 sec/5 min/1 hr/1 day/etc.
I never thought about linking them to mentalism. It does come with a small remote. But the distance does not go far. |

The issue here is tht we are thinking about using these too late. They are already known about by th epublic and therefore using them would be foolish.
Magicians as a rule have employed technology and such before it becomes popular knowledge. I think we should leave these alone as people will recognise them for what they are. Sadly. Maybe this could be over come by using them as a secret device for example used as a large and easy to access crib. You could have 20 different images made up of text thatyou use to affect a crib sheet hidden for example within a dummy pad of paper. Just a thought. Id go with using it as a secret device rather than an open prop. Also what do you guys think about using digital paper that is becoming more user friendly now. You could essentially have sevral books stored in the thickness of a single sheet of paper - a pretty amazing crib for a pretty direct book test comes to mind. L. |
