I've tested the fantasio plastic canes and they seem useless.

The metal one from magic king is much more expensive but works like a dream.

how practical are the fantasio canes?

It depends on what you are using them for.I use the Walsh for appearing but love Richard Rouceau's disappearing cane for for the one hand vanish.Cordially,Howard

In the good old days I also started off with the fantasio appearing canes. Now I am only using Harakhan and Mahka Tendo canes.

There are many limitations to the plastic appearing canes. But then for novices with limited budgets I believe they can try them out. But for professionals go for metal canes.

Plastic doesn't mix with fire Smile Nor are the canes sturdy enough for things like Dove on cane (or even production horizontally... we've all seen them bend!).

A nice steel cane is the best. You can do more with them, they last forever, and they've got so much power!

http://www.theambitiouscard.com/details.......KAPPCANE

this is the one I've been playing with. once I figured out how to close it up, I've been very happy with it. are there other metal ones that would be even better? this one seems great.

I have seen the plastic cane via a production horozontally and it was a joke.

What you need to do is extend the plastic cane all the way out and tighten it a lot and then wrap a rubberband around it a lot and leave it for about three days.

It will snap open a lot quicker. You just may need a smaller silk.

Frank, I have found that the metal canes are far more practical than the Fantasio and will last much longer. The Fantasios are just to flimsy for most uses. The only thing I use a fantasio for is the one handed vanish.

If you want to go for speed or studiness then metal canes would be the better choice.

I just broke my metal appearing cane 2 weeks ago by accident. It was a about 30 years old. It hit the ceiling fan while it was on high. Kinda sad actually, that was one of the first tricks my mom bought me when I was getting into magic in jr high.

I agree with you, Joseph. They are awesome. I only use Harakhan and Mahka Tendo canes in my acts. Will not touch any other canes.

This little innocent ceiling fan seem to have destroyed many magicians' props and accessories. I have heard countless stories about this kind of mishap.

Thought I will share a true story ...

I will not name any magicians here. This story was told to me by Magician X around 7 years ago.

Magician X was at the house of Magician Y around 15 years ago. Magician Y is a very good stage magician / illusionist with a fast paced show. He wanted to show Magician X his latest addition to his show - 12 Fantasio appearing canes for a synchronised routine with his assistants. They decided to first test the cane. Magician Y set 1 cane and prepared to show Magician X. With this usual over enthusiasm, he released the catch and made the cane appear. It was visible for a moment and then it disappeared. They heard a sound and looked up. The cane had slipped from Magician Y's hand and was rotating on the ceiling caught in the ceiling fan. Then it broke into two and fell on the ground.

Magician X told me that that was the first time, he was witness to a performance of Appearing Cane, Disappearing Cane, Dancing Cane and Multiplying Cane - all within a space of 5 seconds!

Strange but true...

Actually they're not Tannen Canes persay, but India canes, need to get on these buggers about deburring and putting a radius on their edges before winding.

Tannen's, yes when Irv and Lou were there it was great, Tannen's was notorious for copying items, it's not an accusation I have several of their pieces they auctioned off over the past couple of years on ebay and all were knockoff routines.
