This is currently doing the rounds on email.
couldn't think where to put it - but it borders on mentalism. Go on give it a try. It's as weird as you like. If anyone can post a video of them proving it can be done - I'll donate a small prize! Here goes: 1. WITHOUT anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY......) and while sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. 2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. Mad isn't it?!! |

Yes me too.
I does it to friend, making them that I controll their feet even if I am not here. Not very convincing as you may expect it, execpt for one ^^. |

I can do it, honestly.
Also, it's pretty tricky to do the following: move your arms in a circular motion, one going clockwise (away from you) and the other coming counter clockwise (towards you) I'll try to post a video, as I'm rubbish at explaining stuff. It's pretty easy as soon as it 'clicks', but until then it's absolutely impossible. |

Roger,
This is a great little tid bit! I'm going to use it with Patrick Redford's "Lead On" opening. James, I can do the arms in different directions, but the foot and number 6 gets me everytime! Very cute. -Jerome.

Yes my foot does change direction.
It also seems to work rolling your eyes clockwise and drawing a 6 in the air. Just make sure nobody is secretly watching you,or you might wind up trying a straight jacket escape. Thank's Roger. Rich |

I love the "6 foot" bit. While not original to me as it has circulated on the internet for sometime, you can find it over at a close friend of mine's website: http://www.mindtapped.com/6foot.html complete with an explanation to why it happens.
It's not impossible, but it does take a fair bit of thinking . -Patrick |

Thought I had mastered it until roughly the 6th or 7th revolution with the foot! Too cool!

What's also cool is that if you rotate your left foot but make the 6 with your right hand, it's completely easy
It's only when you do it with the same side it's almost impossible |

That is really rather interesting, and it's quite likely that I'll work it into a presentation somehow!

The secret to doing this yourself is to not draw a '6' but draw a circle in the air. It will look exactly the same to the audience but will help your brain deal with the task. It's still a but tricky but does make the whole thing a bit easier.

Cool!!! I'm just wondering who will be the first to come up with a full routine incorporating this. Any suggestions?

It's been done?! If so, would you be so kind as to fill in some of the details?

Ormand McGill for one, Stewart James for another, and many hypnotic and mystery entertainers (including me). Search for hypnotic tricks and pseudo-hypnotic stunts. Look for the book Body Magic, McGill's Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism, and Stewart James' Quick Hypnotic Stunts (James even outlines an act). All are excellent sources.
