Looks like korans medaillon or room service or collared.
I can´t imagine what should be new or fresh to this effect.

It's quite a nice idea, though I don't know how original the methodology used is to Koran's Medallion effect, (which this is a version of). (I know something like this has been used in another prediction effect).
Unfortunately, the quality of the printed matter provided that is a key part of the trick, is diabolical. I was able to knock something far better out on my home laptop, which makes it even more unforgiveable. Frankly, as a manufacturer, I'd be bloody embarrassed sending out what is provided. (The provided pad - ungimmicked - and marker pen - ungimmicked - should be left out and the money saved spent on the printed matter). Having said that, it is a consumable and as you need more for future performances, rather than photocopy what's provided, spend a little while creating something far better, (basic desktop publishing only required). The instructions are rather meagre also. Those who know how the basic Medallion effect works will know what needs to be done as you make a note of the random room number created, and with Digital Deception this could take a relatively long time, so a few throw-offs and bits of business needed. Again, I do like the idea behind this, and the handling and props provided mean the key and key-fob is on show throughout the effect. |

I think this method is really great. True his material are a bit cheap.
When you turn the key around, that has been hanging in your pocket, the digitally printed number looks great. This version is easy to do and certainly a new method. James

I thought the number was printed on the key fob, rather than the key itself, is that not correct?

Also, can I give the participant the actual key to hold throughout the routine, or is it needed?

It sounds like a less expensive version of Collard or Room Service (no longer available) or Room Key by El Duco. If the equipment is the same it is a bargain.

The number is printed on the key fob, and things are much simpler - and the given handling works - if the actual key stays linked to the key fob, as it naturally would be.

Seems that you could mixed this with John Riggs handling for Room Service.

I see, many thanks. Looks like this is not for me if the key needs to stay on the fob as I'm looking to give the participant the key to hold in a psychometry routine.
Thanks again, Ross |

Am I getting this right, the key needs to stay on the fob for the trick to work? Can any key be used?
Kind regards, Ross |

Ross,
The effect is that the selected number is printed on the key fob. The key itself has little to do with the routine. There needs to be a key on the fob to make it look like a key fob, but it could be any key. There is no reason why the key (with or without the fob attached) can't be held by a spectator after the number has been revealed on the fob. The fob is relatively small and doesn't prevent the key being held by a spectator. But it would not be practical to allow that particular key to be handled before the number printed on the fob is revealed. |

Thanks for the response Caliban,
Apologies for pressing this, but I want to be sure that this effect can do what I want it to. I thought I understood it correct from your first paragraph but then you said: "But it would not be practical to allow that particular key to be handled before the number printed on the fob is revealed." Is this because the key actually needs to be on the fob to accomplish the effect? Or because you think that without the key or the fob it would look out of place? I want to take out key and fob, hand the participant the key to hold throughout as they focus on the key in their hand whilst they think of a number, do the dirty in my hand/whatever and reveal the number on the fob. Kind regards, Ross |

I've sent you a PM but the short answer (without giving too much away) is: if you want to keep the fob on display before the number is chosen there needs to be a key on it. If you are happy to produce the fob after the number has been selected there doesn't need to be a key on it. You are really paying for the clever way of having a "printed" number appear on the key fob. Also bear in mind that this is a cabaret trick and would not be suitable for table hopping. |

I have used this effect several times and I think it is brilliant. Unlike most Koran Medallion effects the number looks printed (as in a digital readout) not written in by hand as most are. It can therefore be shown to your audience - you do not have to get someone up to read it out (and who may be a bit suspicious of the quality of the number). The number is quite large so it can be done for quite a large audience. It can be shown up to about 3 feet away but not any closer. The method is low-tech and very easy to perform.
I assume it has been reissued since the first comments were made about the poor quality of printing as the material provided is first class and now comes with a DVD. Walt Lees wrote an enthusiastic review of it in "Abrcadabra" about 3 months ago and I am surprised that there has not been more positive comments from purchasers (maybe they want to keep it for themselves).
