Hi, its difficult to explain this in a title so I will explain it here. Let's assume their card is in the 13th position, and I don't want to touch the deck, and I asked them to say a number between 10 and 15. 12 and 13 would be easy, 13 its the card on top of the dealt pile and 12 the card to deal, but the others 2? any idea?
for, 11 I caould ask them to add the two digits, 1 and 1 and deal two more cards ..and the others? thankss bye |

Get a different method
You could stack the 10,11,12,14,15 cards so the 10 would have 3, 11 have 2, etc so that you arrive at "indicator card" which takes you to selection. Or much better would be to use another ruse to arrive at the same effect, rather that simply placing the card 13th use another method. There are many ways of doing "Card at any number" which would allow you to have a free choice of 1-52 instead of limiting to 10-15. |

The problem is that, its the final part of a trick, and the number is used for another thing, and the card is in the 13rd (can be in the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13rd, 14th, 15th position) and with that number between 10 and 15 the spectator count the card and I reveal the card...
thanks for the help, mateo |

Use a mentalist subtility. I'm french but I have heard it in English also.
Ask them that, not in a very fast way, but rather without interruption, so as to they cannot think ^^ : Choose a number between 1 and 10, ( here is my part, because a performance, if it failed, your effect is ruined, so I add these lines), but not 5, it's obvious, you can do better !". So normaly, the person will choose 7! I add those lines after because of : "you can do better", the inconscient and perhaps even the spectator witouht notice it will choose a number bigger than 5, so 7. After you can ask to double the number they have in mind. There is also another method explain in Derren Brown's Card repertoir ( The Devil Picture Book I think ^^) where the deck is completly shuffle and there is no force for the number asking !!! It's really a Killer. |

Although I don't know why selection of a number is limited between 10 & 15, here is a solution.
You have the target card (selection) on 12th from top. You have crimp card on 3rd from bottom. If spectator say 11 or 12, you can count and reveal the target card. If he say 13 or 14, you cut the deck several times and finally cut the deck below the crimp card. Now you are ready for 13 and 14. But I think revealing the card from such limited position is not so effective. At least, between 10 and 20 will be appropriate. There are many ways to produce from the position between 10 and 20. Or,
Not sure how strict your requirement to not touch the deck is, but if you can handle the deck some, here is a method... You could "demonstrate" to the spectator what you want him to do. Say "I want you to deal cards one at a time from the deck, like this..." You then deal the top 1 (if he said 14) or 2 (if he said 15) cards casually onto the table as you demonstrate what he will be doing. Then drop the rest of the deck on top of the card(s) on the table and perhaps throw in a false cut at this point. Hand the entire deck to the spectator and let him/her deal. The chosen card is now in the 13th position. Ron

I also don't understand why your selection is so limited.
If YOU do the reveal the 12 and 13 is easy like you said. 11 do a DL from the deck and 14 do a DL from the dealt packet. Better would be to second deal but you have to have a very solid second deal. 10 and 15 say "Between 10 and 15" and thus exclude the 2 numbers. |

I am still interested to know the reason the selection is limited between 10 and 15.
Won't you hesitate to say "Please select a number between 10 and 15". In performing Alex Elmsley's '7 - 16', I surely hesitate to say "Please select a number between 7 and 16'. I think saying so is a fatal weakness in that Elmsley trick. Hideo Kato P.S. I hope Shiolo-san can post the whole effect he want to perform. Otherwise, my brain will go round and round and gets nowhere. |
