Hi all,
I have been doing magic for the past 7 years. In that time, I have mostly been doing close-up. I am now getting a stage/illusion show together and am looking for a good one man appearance. In my show, I will also be including my Losander's Floating Table and Kevin James' Snow Animator III, as well as other smaller stage tricks. Thanks, Ste http://www.sparksmagic.co.uk |

Sparks:
1. Have someone look over your Web site and correct the grammar errors. 2. A good (and inexpensive!) solo appearing illusion is the Appearing Archway Illusion in Jim Gerrish's PVC Pipe Illusions Book 1 (on my site). An even better, all purpose one (when you get some assistants) is the Garden Gate Illusion from the same book. 3. Good luck on your transition from close-up to stage, and remember, don't be an imitator - be an originator.

I can't wait to hear what Jack has up his sleeve. No doubt, Jack's quality is first rate.

Being new to illusions I just got Paul Osborne's Big Black Book, and on page 236 is "The Frame of Life." It looks a very "buildable" and nice illusion.

His Flash Appearance is also a very good illusion, easily transportable, and simple to build. It is in his first Illusion Systems book.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I used Andrew Mayne's Specter Cabinet in my show and it got great feedback. It's is incredibly cheap and can be made in 20 minutes. I really recommend it.

While I can not talk about building this illusion, I can say that 100$ for an illusion you can perform on stage is quite cheap... You won't find anything of quality for that price, never mind "high" quality... If you can build something good for that price, you have a good deal. Louis |

Really cheap, when you compare it to Losander's Table and James' Animator.

Well, sure $100 isn't too bad but the directions lead you to believe it can be built for $60. They don't tell you that finding some of the materials such as the 3 way pvc connectors can't be found at Home Depot, Lowes or anywhere local. You have to search the internet and then special order. I spent almost $60 in just the connectors.
Then you still have to buy all the fabric, velcro, light, ext. cord. My grand total came to around $130, over twice what was stated. Not a bad illusion but kind of misleading description. |

My Lowes does have the 3 way connectors but you have to use the smaller diameter pipe. However, you didn't need to buy 3 way connectors anyway. A 'T' and 2 street 90's will do the same thing without having to order anything special.
Bought sheets from Wal-mart which cost a whopping $4 a piece and brought the price of the illusion in for right about $60. |

I have Andrew's Specter Cabinet also, and it's pretty good and simple to build. I haven't gotten around to building it yet though, becasue I'm currently building the shadow box effect from his illusion EFX DVD, which is the best DVD on Earth. If your looking for illusions that you can do on your own though, this is not the DVD for you. Every effect uses an assistant, if memory serves me correctly.

I have "Flash Appearance." I forgot the name of the company I purchased it from. I heard that company is going out of business. There has also been a lot of complaints mentioned of the company. The company gives you a deal. If you pay $100, you will become a member. You will be able to purchase things with a percentage discount. Anyone remember the name of that company?

Mike,
I believe that was Doug Tilford's company. While there were a range of experiences noted on The Café with Doug's company, mine had only been good. I believe he has since retired though I thought I saw somewhere the flash appearance still marketed by the original manufacturer. Dan. |
