WOW...the entire style of DC was ripped off. But I must say, I love the Water T-Cell and the face popping out screen effect...

Pathetic... His show mimics Copperfield so closely, I thought this was a spoof!

Where does one get a spare $200,000 to build duplicates of Copperfield illusions?
...and if you have a $200k budget, WHY are you building things that have already been done?? BTW...thanks for the link, Lance. I hope that Ryan Reed isn't upset that you found one that he missed! |

I really thought the days of riping DC off entirely and completely were over.
I got ahold of this guy's production filming people. I guess he's out of L.A. Builds all of the illusions himself. DC sees this, he's done...un-friggin-believable... |

Before the act, he stomps his left foot down hard and says, "Huugggggh."
He then stomps his right foot down and says, "Huggggh". OK, I'll stop. LOL!

I hope this does not turn into a "look who is ripping off who" thread. I now feel bad about posting this, but being a new person to the YouTube world, I am amazed to see all of the look-a-likes out there.
I would think if you were a serious performer, the last thing you would do is to copy a well known act, especially if you wanted to get noticed. Some of you may know this story...it’s about The World's Greatest Magic TV show and the David Copperfield, Lance Burton, Rudy Colby, and Jeff McBride box. Gary Ouellet had a cardboard box with the name of every well known magician on it, and every time Gary received a tape where the performer looked or preformed like DC, he would through it into the box. This went for all the other well known magicians. From what I hear, the boxes got very full and only a small number of tapes made it through. Knowing this story, why would anyone want to end up in a box? Lance Richardson P.S. Starr, I got lucky. LOL |

Considering that he's ripping off Copperfield, shouldn't the last scene be of him with his head between his legs, kissing his *** goodbye?

I think it's funny in the first video the guy does pretty much everything DC does, but has a dumb look to him when he does it. He looks like he just got hit in the head with a bat and has no personality.
The second video is great as well, especially the dark, McBride character, but he has a table with the cheesy top hat and wand, and does Cardiographic. Haha! |

The second guy kind of reminded me of Meat Loaf doing magic tricks...

Chris Starr,
You know Meat Loaf is actually a member of the Magic Castle, and he performs too? But seriously people, the 2nd guy might be starting of, so give him some credit. If I received this negative criticism when I was younger, I would have quit magic. Now, the David Copperfield guy is a different story. Also, check this guy out: http://www.johngabrielmagic.com/ He was on World's Greatest Magic, he should know better. The cover page of his site is the same look and feel of David Copperfield's headshot and webpage. G0THIKE |

I really don't know what to say about Kirin Stone. It is so close to DC that one might think it a spoof, but then you see that it's true. I just don't get why someone would do this. I can understand emulating a role model, and can put up with a little stealing of material, but this goes beyond. It reminds me of videos I saw of someone in Europe (I think) who also copied DC with very little originality.
I must admit, I've never seen someone appearing from a tornado before...that was cool. |

Lance Richardson Loyal user 246 Posts |
Yes, the tornado effect was good, but the funny thing about it is that DC was trying to do that very thing in his show, but with a story behind it. From what I heard, DC had lot of trouble with the whole thing and scraped it; the story part, that is. Still owning the tornado effect, DC and team came up with the Tornado of Fire challenge piece, and that, we all saw on his TV special.
I will give Kirin Stone a that-a-boy for getting the whole thing to work. It was a nice effect for a magic show and something I had never seen used with a person standing next to it, or in it. Lance |
