Hey guys, Recently, I've been thinking about using snakes in my stage routine. I was thinking of producing snakes like how one would produce doves from a dove bag. IS there anyone that has attempted producing snakes and are there any performance videos to show? I know some magicians produce big snakes such as pythons from props like duck pans but I'm talking about body loading. Help appreciated.

I am afraid I use snakes in dove pans, duck buckets, circus wagons, etc. I have never seen a snake produced that way...but it would be cool if it could be done safely. I hope some others chime in with some ideas. Good luck!

When you try to do this you must remember that the snake has to be securely held in. The slightest opening and they will get there head out . If it is dark and cozy with no openings at all you will find it easier.. best of luck to ya

I guess your right, I've handled snakes many times and I understand what you mean by ensuring the bag had no holes...Anyone else with thier thoughts?

There was a magician on one of the World's Greatest Magic shows that did a dove routine with the vanishing cage. As he walked forward after showing the cage gone he produced a Boa from the cage foulard.
The production itself was done nicely, but it did NOT fit in with the act! The applause died quickly and stopped when the snake was produced. The audience knew it was out of place. So be sure that the production of the snake fits the routine for maximum impact, otherwise you can lose the audience as he did. James Adamson

The Magician that produce the snake in the worlds greatest magic was Jonathan David Bass. I think the production of his snake is fantastic, I think the reaction of the audience was great, I think they were shocked and amazed of the huge snake that they forgot to keep goin with the applause. I think any producition of any animal is amazing as long is it safe for the animal. You can see Jonathan's act by copying and pasting this link on your address bar.

Johnathan David Bass's routine was pretty good, but I felt it lacked substance. Many of the better dove acts are based around dove productions, but also contain smaller routines(ie. Card Manipulation). I found that after he produced the first 3 or 4 in succession, it started to become boring.
With that said, his productions were great, his technique looked to be good, and his style seems to suit todays audiences who believe Criss Angel is the saviour of our art. Also one thing I noticed, he seemed a little rough with the snake at the end of the act, perticularly when he hung it around his neck and the animal just hung down.

With the right type of snake and some modifications to the typical dove harness, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Snakes are often put into pillow cases for feeding or transportation.
The temprement of the snake will play a big role in if/how this would all play out. I am fortunate to have the only all reptile shop in the state around the corner from my office. I don't have any snakes, but I do have 3 lizards, so if I wanted to explore this myself I would be able to get the owner to let me play with some of her snakes because I'm in her shop a few times a week for food and supplies.
