::BICYCLE MASTERS EDITION DECK:::

This is my review for the Bicycle Masters Edition deck produced by Ellusionist. In this review, I am going to try and cover all aspects of these cards. I hope this will help you make a desicion as to whether you will purchase them or not. Let's get started...

What is The Bicycle Masters Edition Deck?
The Bicycle Masters Edition Deck is a deck of cards produced by Ellusionist. For the most part, they look like an ordinary deck of rider back Bicycle playing cards. But they are of a higher quality finish, and a thicker stock. Also, there is a brand new design for the Ace of Spades and tuck box. The Bicycle Masters Edition Deck lasts longer than a normal deck of cards, which can save you lots of money.

The Tuck Box
The first thing you see when you recieve these cards is the tuck box. The Masters Edition box is slightly modified, and has a different design. On the front the regular "Bicycle" text is spread across the top. According to the colour of cards you purchased (red or blue) this text will be on a coloured background that covers the whole box, except for a white ark in the centre. There are gold hilights in the coloured area, that follow the outline of the area covered. Displayed in the white ark area is the newly designed Ace of Spades, with the text "Masters Edition embalzoned above it in a light gray. Below the spade, also in light gray it says "Playing Cards" in a small font. At the very bottom it says "Masters Edition - Rider Back." On the back of the box, the rider back design is displayed surrounded by a white border. There is also a red and white deck seal that says "The United States Playing Card Company" on it. Unlike a regular tuck box, the edges are all white and contain information about the finish, and production company. The bottom edge has a built in bar-code revalation that says "2 07 5P4D3S." This is a huge step up from a regular Bicycle tuck-box, and I think it looks incredible.

The Quality
The Masters Edition Deck has a UV500 Air-Flow Finish, which makes the cards tougher and stay slippier longer. Also, the cards are printed on Casino-Grade Stock which makes them considerably thicker. The difference in quality is completly noticeable, and I am looking forward to seeing how long these babies can last.

The Ace of Spades
The new Ace of Spades design is, in my opinion, the nicest feature of this deck. It features a mechanical looking outline of the classic spade, complete with bolts. In the center a tribal style eagle whose wings stretch out past the spade, flys beneath a crown, all against a red/blue background. The Ace of Spades reminds me of a tribal/graffiti style, much like a tatoo.

Final Thoughts
I think this deck is absolutely great! They feel great, and they quality is undeniable. With the cheap price, you really can't go wrong.

OVERALL RATING - 10/10

Great Review, I personally love Master's Edition. the only problem is trying to use normal playing cards after ward's. the normal deck seems small in my hands comared to the master's edition.

The Masters are everything they claim to be. To add to what has been said they are now including an "oldschool" AS to the newer packs as well as the redesigned one. If you bought cards in the 80's the thickness will be familiar, but these cards stay slicker WAY longer. I've also noticed that when just left in there box overnight they as if they were in a card guard. Speaking of CG, if you own a Porper model and want to put a Masters deck into it, first repack it in reg. Bicycle card case and then put it in! All 52 card and a joker will fit and I'm pretty sure that one more joker could be put in. It's a wee bit of a tighter fit mind you and the extra thickness could in time widen the CG enough that a reg. deck wouldn't be held as securely or may even just slide out, so bear this in mind if you try it; Porper's CG costs decent chunk of change so beware the long term effects of doing this. My only hope is that they will support this deck with gimmicked cards as they have done so far with the Red Gaff Deck; they are of the same thickness, stock and quality as the Masters. Now that E has removed their ad from the bottom of the box and included a reg. ace, I wish they would make available a reg. box with the reveal as I'm sort of warming up to it considering that E was smart enough to mix numbers in for letters which makes most people have work a bit to see it and I think that strengthens. Best used in a routine revolving around series of coincidences I think. FTR I've been kicking the living s**t out of my first pack and it is still going strong, the only two things I've noticed as far as wear is that is side of the deck is a little darker which happens to every deck over time, but this is the only thing I don't like, if you Faro a lot as I do the corners tend to become darker and (to me anyway) seem to have a sort of metallic cloured shine to them after much Faroing. However, I have yet to encounter anyone who mentioned that fact. These really make card work a lot more enjoyable; just the extra heft is empowering and they stay nice and slick for fanning, at least for the last two months and counting!

To be honest, I've been using them for a while and don't notice much of a difference from normal Bikes. They are a little thicker but that's about it. The thing I like best about them is that both Jokers are identical so for those that like to do tricks using a dup, you already have a dup in the deck at all times. I think that is a great feature.

Thanks for the review. The cards look great. I have two questions:

(1) Are the Bicycle Masters Edition worth the addition cost over a regular deck of Rider Back Bicycle playing cards? (My cost would be about $6.99 for the Masters vs. $1.22 for the regular deck.)

(2) Since these cards look a little different (card box and ace of spades), would people think that there is something fishy about them (trick cards)?

Worth $6.99 against $1.22 - in my opinion no. However, if you get them by the dozen they are $3.65 per deck (including shipping). If you do tricks where cards are destroyed in any way I would say it is not even worth it at that. However, I do think they are worth it for tricks where the cards aren't destroyed.

This has been debated with every new deck that has come out. I don't think it matters what deck you use if someone thinks they are marked or anything else they are going to think it no matter what. That being said, keep in mind USPCC has released a whole lot of colored cards, vintage designs, etc that are sold at major retailers like Wal-Mart and Target.
