Maybe, Richard's most overlooked contribution to the art of mentalism, is his ability to create "MOMENTS" in his effects. For example, instead of simply revealing his 'prediction' to the audience in any number of effects, he first reveals his prediction to the volunteer on stage. That on-stage volunteer "freaks out," thus causing the audience to gasp and be shocked WELL BEFORE the 'prediction' is revealed to them. Of course, once the audience sees the prediction with their own eyes, they react even more than they did when they saw the 'on-stage volunteer's' reaction.
Richard seems to have a knack for knowing how to exponentially increasing an audience's reaction through the creation of "moments" in his routines/effect. I think this is his greatest material. |

Did you say what *are* our favorites or what we *wished* were our favorites.
Richard, IMHO, is the absolute best when it comes to bending spoons, but it is not something I do. I perform his: -- version of Mental Epic using spiral-bound index cards -- ESP Card System, and -- BCS where spectator grabs about 10 or so cards, shuffles them and mentalist names them What I appreciate about him is what I have seen is audience-tested, it's not like "Why on earth would I ever do that." It's not too far from the truth to say this, but I would probably do even more of his effects if I didn't feel so guilty about trying to steal his persona. Bobby

His first video was the best, RO as a magician!
RO as a magician great! As a mentalism a little less! As a person great! As a teacher great! and his ideas are great too! (ESP card system I wish I was him at the moment he dicovered this system, what a great feeling this must give...) |

Miracle Thought Prediction
My 19 year old son is uninterested in magic. But he talks about how Dad asked him to name a card that was already on the table and he named it. That was several years ago and it is still fresh in his mind. Parson

I have not had acess to all of Osterlinds material(except Mind Myst and Easy to mastermental miracles and a few posts in the Café).One sneaky twist(pun intended) in the one ahead system with signatures of the spectator is probably worth a lot to me...I forget the name of the effect.

The watch routine is permanently in my repertoire of impromptu effects.
Cutlery Spray is also a great way to bend three forks all at once, should you find yourself in that predicament... |

Gentlemen,
I just rediscovered this thread and have read the many posts since my last one. All I can say is a sincere and heart-felt THANK YOU for all your kind words. You have no idea how much your compliments mean to me and how happy I am to know that so many of you are using the material. Thank you again, Richard |

STENO ESP is to me a classic.
When I use a pad as opposed to business cards, I use STENO ESP methodology.

Heck, Mr O - your DVD series is like the Modern 13 Steps/PME/MM&M course in videoform... it should be required viewing for anyone starting out and also for pros to see different angles.
My favourite things were just watching your audience rapport. I still think you should start a spin-off DVD series called "The Amazed Janelle" My favourite effects are like others: BCS (memorized) with the variation of effects.... The Final Answer (love that so much) The transparent forces... well..shucks..almost everything... I also love your subt. with the Dracula book test.... I now how the Tony I's "Popular Selection" effect with the reveal of the Dracula Book and then the double whammy of using it thanks to your nice little extra book you included in the Transparent Forces package ages ago.... kills kills kills...

Chet,
I hate most of the people (including myself sometimes) when they reveal stuff to other people. Especially when said stuff is excellent!
