I wanted to point out that one of the best sources for silk magic is the four volume set of Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic.

These books contain not only great effects using silks and or handkerchiefs, but invaluable information concerning the care needed to make your silks look their very best, and last you for years to come.

A special note worth mentioning is the fact that these books were handwritten and illustrated by Francis Martineau from information given by Harold Rice himself.

I know that I have found plenty of great ideas in these pages, and many magician foolers as well.

They really are a fantastic series Steve. I suggest anyone with any interest in silk to buy them.

I agree, the Rice set is the very best there is and I'd never part with mine.
If you are into Silks you will find the Mystique Magic Mfg Catalogue interesting from SILKSRUS site.

The Rice Encyclopedia of Silk Magic is the one set of magic books that I have used more than the Tarbell set.

I got these recently, and I would put them right up there with Tarbell. Why I didn't get these years ago I'll never know. In one of the Stage Magic DVDs, Jeff McBride points out that these are a wonderful reference for all kinds of magic, something that will start your mind going. It is fun to see how he has modified some of the effects.

Paul

Excellent illustrations and descriptions.
Can't tell you how many times I've seen methods from the silk encyclopedia cross over into other applications.
George Saterial changed and perfected the handling for sympathetic silks, which he learned from Rice's books, turning it into the best sympathetic silks I've ever seen.
I've used the "Slydini" knot for years after learning it from the encyclopedia - not for magic, but as a way to untie the handles of a plastic bag (I have used this method as an improvisation).
