Thanks for the info Chris!
So Jay's pretty much re-releasing his Very best of Jay Sankey Vol. 1-3 on one DVD this time? |

I think it's purely a beginner's dvd but I would still buy it after three years of loving card magic.

I bet it will have some good ideas for seasoned folks as well.

Most likely. Although I think Elliott is right, it's mostly aimed at beginners.
However Jay does a nice second deal on that demo. I haven't seen him do that before.

Jay is a clever, uber-creative magician and good marketer. Also a good and funny teacher. I like his work.
This disc seems very comprehensive so could prove worthwhile for appropriate purchasers. |

I like this DVD very much. Jay has a take on Card On The Ceiling I had not seen or thought of. He places the deck back in the case and throws the case to the ceiling. It's faster and would work very well in certain situations.

Jay's stuff rocks, but he'd get more respect if he stopped repeat-repeat-repeating material from DVD's.
There are over fifteen items listed above that are on DVD's he's already released. |

Yes, there is a lot of older material here. If you have Jay's other offerings or are quite experienced, there wouldn't be much here for anyone.
The camera is very cloe-up, which I like.I'm having fun watching it and it was worth it for me to have a quicker handling for card on the ceiling.

If you already have a number of Sankey's books and DVDs, you probably won't find much new here.

I wish he would make this for coins, so he could go more in-depth about the Goshman/Tenkai Pinch. Or better yet, he should do what he did with the new Paperclipped DVD, and Hundred Dollar Miracles, put all his Goshman/Tenkai Pinch tricks into one DVD.

I liked him putting the deck in the case for card on the ceiling. It reminds me of the classic vision of a magi getting in a truck. By still using a ruberband in the traditinal way ( but around the card case ), you can make it like your putting chains around the trunk.
That's the way I'm going to use it. The DVD won't be for everyone, but I got more than my moeny's worth just for this one idea.

Yeah, I heard about Revolutionary Coin Magic 2.0. The first Rvolutionary Coin Magic was the best DVD I have ever seen. For Card on Ceiling, I just throw the deck, without a rubberband or the case.

I think cartd on the ceiling is stronger if the deck is contained. Rubber band, case or both.

Are there any new effects on this DVD that haven't appeared on his other ones?

Title: Sleight of Hand Secrets With Cards
Medium: DVD Arena: Close up Available: Any shop, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies Jay Sankey puts out a huge amount of material and one if his more useful projects is this DVD. The DVD is nicely shot, camera work and sound is good across the board, and it is an overall well done product. Jay has improved the quality since the days he shot videos in his kitchen. The menu has the routines broken down under both performance and explanation. There are also a couple of nice bonus areas covering poker related material and flourishes. One thing I would have liked to see is a break down of the sleights so that one can click on a specific sleight to see how it works. As it stands now you have to know which routine the sleight is found in to review. This DVD would be really good for the new card person, those with advanced skills or owners of Card College won’t get much from it. That isn’t a reflection on the quality it is just that the moves on this DVD should be known by anyone with some experience with cards. You new guys will find a number of very valuable sleights here. You’ll learn multiple card lifts and turn overs, spreads, cuts, false shuffles, color changes, false counts, the basics are all here. You’ll also learn some basic card tricks, 18 in total, using around 40 different sleights, and at the end, with practice, you will be able to perform some pretty cool tricks for family and friends. You may even be ready to put on a black tshirt, smear the smile off your face, remove any personality you have, and become a street assassin or hall way hit man. I won’t go over everything as there is a huge amount on this DVD but again, you could do a lot worse if you want to learn card magic than to get this DVD. I’m not a big Sankey fan but this is one of his better efforts. In fact, thinking about it, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn cards, along with the Michael Ammar and Mike Maxwell Self Working Card Tricks. After that you will be on your way and no longer a newbie but a card guy ready for more advanced material. |
