In my opinion the Catapult sleeve is the best, because you can have your sleeves up when you do it.

Love sleeving, play with it all the time (how useful is it not having to put things down when you need your hands free?!), but do only very little in my professional work... just can't beat the sleeves up conviction... I got accused of sleeving sponge balls today!
My favourite things to sleeve though are pens (and incidentally the only thing I sleeve in gigs regularly is a lighter). Love catapult, and Dr Roberts. Paul |

I use a snap vanish often with a quarter when I need a quick finish and cleanup; display the quarter on a RH finger tip and snap over it with the LH. No more quarter. I also use the pumpkin seed vanish with nickles and pennies.
The other use for sleeving I enjoy is the production of an object after dropping it into the sleve while getting something from the breast pocket, requires a jacket though. Sleeving is fun! =D

Am I the only one who wonders why this thread is allowed in a forum titled "Nothing up my sleeve . . ."?

Jay Sankey has a coin vanish called "Hypnotized" in his DVD called No Card Tricks. It is very interesting, and can be done naked.

While I have practiced sleeving I haven't used it.
Maybe because I don't wear jackets very often and my shirts are not the best for doing so. I do shirt a coin in one routine and top pocket a coin in another when standing and clothing permits. Platt's 'Catapult' has opened my eyes to the uses of an old technique. Good stuff. |

I love sleeving, however, it is only seasonal for me. Right now here in Ohio, it is getting quite warm, so my long sleeve shirts and jackets are all put away for the summer. However, a nice muscle pass comes in handy for ditching a coin into your outer shirt pocket. Shoot Ogawa has a nice method for this called the "Shoot Shot". It takes some practice, but when you get it down, you have one CLEAN vanish on your hands....or out of your hands depending on how you look at the situation.

Phil, couldn't agree more. I live in South Georgia and love to sleeve, but its 100% out of season right now. I haven't seen Shoot Shot, but that front pocket comes in handy. I have a number of polos with a pocket there that get plenty of play. Which DVD is Shoot Shot on?

Hey Jimmy,
You can find the Shoot Shot on the Cultural XChange Vol 1 DVD. I have both volumes, but I find the best work and material is on Vol 1. It's worth checking out. Shoot offers some ideas for coin work that I have never heard of or would even think of for that matter. It has elevated my coin work higher than I have ever dreamed of.

I second the Cultural XChange videos. A large amount of my material came from those DVD's. Great sleights, great routines, good teaching and overall not too diffucult. If I had to choose only one I would definitely go with the first video.

Thanks guys. I own Cultural Xchange 2 (Shoot's triumph routine is worth the cost of the entire DVD), and have CX1 as the next DVD on my to-get list. I assumed that was where you got it from when I saw Shoot's name, but was just checking.
He also has an amazing routine called Nerd...I believe on his Shoot in Hollywood DVD. I don't own it, but have seen it performed. As an aside, Shoot's definatly one of the most technically sound magicians of our day, but don't overlook Apollo. He can do some amazing things both with coins and cards...and I'd want my wallet on a chain attached to me at at least 3 different points if I had to be in the room with him for an hour

I live in the uk,and 'fortunately' for me,its usually quite cold.wenever I happen to be wearing A JAcket, shirt, jumper, or other that permits such a thing,i will sleeve until my fingers hurt! when sleeving is not an option however,i will invariably top pocket things from a himber pinch, shirt things in an offbeat,or whATEver takes me at the time.
I really don't know why,but I feel like a cheeky little monkey when I ditch something like that right in front of a spectator,it feels so cool.haha. chr!s

A little more work and you can get some help from Jack Miller to manage the same in shirtsleeves.
And please, it's not about how you feel but instead how the audience feels after you are done.
...to all the coins I've dropped here
