In the Real Secrets of Magic, Vol. 1. DVD, David does a retention vanish of a silver dollar into a red silk scarf in a routine called Bite Me (it ends with a knock-out wine bottle production.) It's a beaute, with a nice Fred Kaps subtlety with the R hand immediately afterward. But...the sleight is not taught in the explanation section so much as repeated. I can't find the same vanish in Bobo. Anyone with more of a clue than me can kindly PM me.

If I Remember it should be just a refular Retention to a CP move. At least that's how I do it.

I agree, from what I recall it's a regular Retention pass, but anything your left hand does with a silk over it is exaggerated, so it does get a killer retention.

David Stone uses the David Roth's retention vanish, as taught in his book expert coin magic. He (Stone) teaches it himself in his first DVD, basic coin magic.

There are also citations on the DVD! I'm quite fond of his one coin routine, and I love that he cited his sources at the end of the explanation. Now, I just have to get David Roth's book. It's long over due!

Thanks for the link in your post, dan. I found the teaching of it most useful. I'm just starting out in my coin magic, and I have to say, I would *love* to be able to handle coins with the grace and ease of David Stone. Out of curiosity, is anyone else able to do the Kaps subtlety like him? I'm working on extending and spreading my fingers with the palm down, but my thumb always looks funny. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a quick question...
Is David's DVD that hard to learn from? I am curious for my own educational purposes only. Not because you SHOULD be able to learn from it. What ever info I can gain helps me with my own DVDs. Thanks you for taking the time to reply to this. Have a wonderful day! Corey |

Hey Feher,
We are actually talking about the Real Secrets of Magic DVDs that Stone has put out. I have them both and the instructional part is without speaking. I find it to be a breeze to learn from, BUT wonder what others are thinking. |

Thanks for your feedback Tim. I found it to be a wonderful way to learn the routines and the idea that it does not matter what language the student speaks is beautiful.
Cheers to David and Jean-Luc and the whole team on these DVDs! Corey |

Although it seems to be the trend at the moment I must be one of the few that prefers teaching dvd's to include talking ,it can clear up certain points in more complicated or longer routines.

The DVD is great - even with artistic value, if I may say.

The vanish is definitely a beautiful Retention Pass to CP.
It's amazing how he can do the vanish with both small to big sized coins.

I love that vanish and really it's not hard to do at all, no harder than doing a regular ROV IMHO. Stone is very good, quite exceptional and one of the world's very best. Good to see all this stuff on dvd. Learning from just reading is cool but the dvd's definitely help and are real progress in the teaching and learning of all this stuff.
