Does anyone know what book and/or video I could learn "Eggs from the Hat" that was popularized by David Devant and also performed by Thurston and later by Lance Burton?

Although it is at least one set of lecture notes I have, the routine is pretty well what you see.
Taking eggs out of the hat/bag or whatever, and overloading the children. Just work out your own way to do it. The only "magic" part is in showing the hat empty at the start. The whole point of the trick is that the boy drops the eggs and makes a mess on the floor, and even on a stage this might not be acceptable !! |

There are several versions (including the Thurston version) in "The Encyclopedia of Egg Magic" by Donato Colucci, published by Hermetic Press. It's an incredible collection of material.

The old traditional method is in Hugards I think, but there are better ways. My favourite is to borrow the traditional method for rabbit in hat, but use eggs instead. This way you can borrow the hat!! (or cap???) Even with hats being rare at least the hat truely is empty.
Ency of Egg magic is a great book, and it's all explained in their along with a whole bunch of other great tricks. Paul |

Jim Gerrish has this included in his "Ungimmicked Egg Bag Routine" (on my site). Besides starting with an ungimmicked egg bag, he shows you how you can use a spectator's hat as the egg bag, and how you can load it with a dozen or so real eggs for the egg production, without having a trick hat or bag. There's a whole lot more to the routine than that, but if all you are interested in is the production of real eggs from a hat, Jim's method will show you how to do it.

Just a side note...I use egg effects quite a lot in our show..its a long story but it fits...anyway I altered the perpetual ball production that is shown at the end of Jeff McBride's Manipulation Without Tears DVD for plastic eggs. My intent was an easy add-on to the egg issue, but it plays pretty darned well.
The downside for your "eggs from hat" is that you don't actually produce a large quantity of eggs, it only looks like you do. However....well, it just depends on what you want but maybe that helps you somewhat. Hope so!
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

Thanks for the suggestions. I finally got ahold of the Encyclopedia of Egg Magic. I had previously tried ordering it sevaral months ago but my local dealer was having a hard time getting it in for a while. It looks great though and is just what I needed.

There's version in Mark Wilson - Eggs from Nowhere. In fact you are producing the same egg again and again, but there's a nice kicker, for which I use small chocolate eggs. Kids love it.

I picked up a goregous gimmicked black top hat but unfortunately I don't remember where I bought it but you can show it empty and produce anything you want from it.

As far as making a mess on stage??? you can always put down some sort of tarp, or more than likelyt a portable florr covering with perhaps your logo?, or even a graphic design odf a farm yard, so many cool ways to go for a theme on a floor covering such as a tarl, or even a vinyl that rolls up after the show, stage hands roll up etc. don't let the mess keep you from having fun with your audience. I love this bit.
