For those of you who are using or pitching Magic Worms, here’s an idea that may save you some time and aggravation.

Many Magic Worm workers use IT to demo the worms, which usually come packed with something a little thicker and stronger. Although these demo IT lines are less visible, they are also more prone to snap, and eventually break under repeated use anyway.

Here’s an idea for a worm hookup that will reduce strain on the line and also reduce your breaks. Wish I could claim credit for it, but it is based upon the classic “resisting line” hookup for the Dancing Handkerchief, described in Mike Ching’s wonderful book “New Animations.”

Most worm workers anchor the IT to a lower shirt buttonhole or a pocket in a waist apron. I modified that hookup by tying the IT to a regular paper clip that I clip to my shirt just below my waistline, so the clip is hidden by my change apron. The paper clip makes it easy to anchor the line securely, yet I can also quickly remove and replace it if necessary.

My additional suggestion is to loop a small (1-inch or even smaller) rubber band onto the paper clip, and then tie the IT to that, rather than tying it directly to the clip itself. The rubber band acts like a shock absorber and provides a little “give” in the line, often preventing it from breaking. You could use the same type rubber band from a Folding Half, or the little rubber bands that kids put on their teeth braces. Failing these, you could just take a regular rubber band and tie a knot in it to get the size/length that you need.

Of course, nothing will stop a break from a major yank or tangle, but I have found this arrangement cuts IT breaks down by at least 50%. That’s still very helpful, because if the worm isn’t walking, you’re not selling!! SETH

Believe it or not,the new SQUIRMLES come with some really thin(almost invisible) fishing line and are pretied right out of the blister pack.

I ware a black shirt and so far no problems of the tip seeing IT.

Don, you're right about wearing the right shirt, it should either be something real dark or else very busy, like a loud plaid pattern that distracts the eye. I have found, oddly enough, that a real bright shirt, say red with black and yellow plaid, is just as good as a dark one. The IT line gets lost in all the other lines -- you act as your own backdrop!

BTW, I've seen the hookup for Don's Squirmles, and I like that thread very much --it's dark, strong, not shiny and still very thin.

I remember reading in Val Andrews' pitch book that one should hook the thread to one's fly (zipper). The thinking was that if someone in the tip was coming on to the secret he would be stopped in his tracks by having to stare at the worker's fly. I can just imagine what others would think if one was caught staring at the pitchman's crotch! "Move along son, it's not that kind of show!"

I heard once,way back when...a pitchman that pitched a muscle builder for man
(like a snake oil pitch) he would say right after he got a tip

" Now I saw the two men holding hands...I won't point you two out,but we don't care for your type here...so please just leave now"

Well,NOT ONE MAN would walk away from the pitch. What a way to hold a tip!

Regarding the Squirmels...I had my NEW 20/20 sharp as a tack glasses on and I could not see anything when Carl did his demo not matter what shirt he had on...It's a beautiful thing.

Be here on the 26th there will be news of a WORLD Record Worm pitch revealed that will take place on the 25th. No peeking!!!!!!! If somebody wants to tip it that's up to them but I prefer after the fact and when the record has been set.

Right Doug.I didn't think of that "EVENT" as a World Record until you mention it on the phone the other day.

I just got word from our man. The " WORLD Record Worm pitch " has been put off till Aug.25th. Not by our man but where he's pitching it.

Looks you will all have to wait for the news another month. ( like who cares)
