I don't own it but I heard good things about the Malloy Master Prediction System. It's an investment though.
Nice to see more Dutch mentalism represented on the Café.

What an excellent question.
There are various threads already but I still feel none the wiser. Many of the clever methods needs more than one person, which can be a constraint... Hey brehan, I have recently purchased the Malloy Master Prediction System. It is a fantastic piece of workmanship. The effect does require you to have a assistant, any thing made by these people is top notch. Also very nice to speak to, give them a call.

If you want something that does not require an assistant, you might look into the Telematic Prediction Chest (on my site in The Wizards' Journal #12). You can use any chest or box, because it does not require a gimmicked box.
Mentalists who frequent my Magic Nook Forum can find the Triple Locked Safe in the Mentalists' Secret section, and that's free. That version does require a bit of work to gimmick the boxes and the use of an assistant, however.

Thank you, Spellbinder. I see you carry a lot of interesting props.

Actually, we don't carry very many props at all. Instead, we have plans for making the props yourself following our directions and photos. Many of the props can be made from materials you find locally at Dollar Stores, Pound Stores (UK) and Craft shops. It is focused towards the "Do-It-Yourself Magician" who understands your motto: The Magic is Within YOU.

This is a very natty little document. Well worth the $3. just wish my 'making' skills were better, but real food for thought. The first version of the Telematic Prediction Box that I made required modification to an ordinary Craft store box. However, over the years I figured out that I could do it with just a regular box from the Craft Store with NO MODIFICATIONS whatsoever (maybe a nice coat of varnish just to make the act look classy). BOTH of these methods are included in the article in The Wizards' Journal #12. I include the first method because who knows? Someone might have a special use for the modified box. But it is the second one that I actually used all the time, once I worked out the handling, and that requires no "making skills" at all!

The Glass Box Prediction by Devin Knight & Al Mann would fit the bill.

As for the glass prediction box, the box provided is small and made of lucite . You stated that you wanted to have a vault or a chest(I presume you want it to look grand) . This would not really fit . The principles, can however be taken and used in another box whixh you can buy or custom make yourself .
IMO, the workings of the glass prediction box is not suitable for a opaque box . the prediction effect is gone when you can't see the billets in the box. I would really recommend the Master Prediction Chest . I don 't have it , but I've seen it in action and know its workings . It kills . I'm giving dream prediction a try first . Another alternative is sending the company a cassete with a recording as a prediction . This can be accomplished in many ways and the impact when the prediction is played on the PA system is very strong . Goodluck.

Hi there,
I have been looking around for different PLOTS for the MPS n I came across this effect: 5 audiences randomly selected via "foam brick" one at a time. 1st spectator: name a no. between 10-100 2nd spectator: 100-1000 3rd spectator: 1000-10000 etc etc you catch my drift. Then the numbers are totaled and revealed ala MPS. anyone has any good plots to share? |

IMO the very best prediction chest, both in terms of appearance (heavy wooden strongbox with brass hardware, a very "antique" look -- could pass for something that fell off a Wells-Fargo stagecoach in the 1800s) and operation (no assistant required, prediction on standard 8 1/2" X 11" paper instead of a tiny rolled up pellet, loaded "on the fly," right under the spectator's noses) is the "Strong Box" made by the late John Pomeroy in the 1980s and which Stephen Minch described as the best he'd ever seen; however, it will be hard to find one and, if you do, you can expect it to be very costly. As far as I know only about 8 were ever made and I believe that David Copperfield has bought up all but the one I own and perhaps only one or two others. It was a Pomeroy "Strong Box" that he used on one of his TV specials several years ago.
Other top of the line chests that do not require an assistant to perform have been made by Thayer, Owen and others. A google search should turn up several worthy of consideration.
