It never feels secure and I know what a proper fit in a dye tube feels like even though, unlike my plastic one, this one has a flange (which would improve the handling if it fit.) I did put some moleskin on the inside and that gave it a bit of traction. The moleskin takes up just enough space to make it work well. Hopefully, it will not gum up my diagonally cut silk. (Sorry Bob. Still using it.) It will be nice to move from the cheap plastic version to this nice one by Rice. The dye tube is one of my favorite utility props because it looks just like real magic. My method is slow, smooth, deliberate and elegant. I never rush the switch from right to left. This always baffles the layperson because my hands look absolutely clean at all times. Pet shop tubing and the lipstick tube sounds like winners, too. Thanks Bob and Richard Great suggestions to have on record here in The Café and great ideas to have in a pinch. Hey, Bob, have some Corky's Barbecue for me in Memphis! It is the best. At 2pm, on any afternoon, you need to head down to the mighty Mississippi river and take a ride on the Memphis Queen Riverboat. That boat and river are really so wonderful. Thanks for all the help. I think the moleskin will work fine, it does not seem to damage the tube in any way, and I hope Harold Rice is pleased with the fact that folks still use his props in the twenty-first century. Thanks guys! Autumn
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Hi Autumn,
I've really enjoyed reading all the helpful ideas Café members have offered you. That is what this wonderful site is all about. I do hope something works for you. You are right, Dad would love having wonderful magicians such as yourself still using his props! In the next week or so, I'm going to send you another brand new Simplex free of charge, so have a blast noodling with the one you have. You deserve it! Congratulations on your new studio in Colorado! The profession needs as many talented women as it can attract! Ruth |

Autumn,
If you are having problems palming a metal gimmick, I might suggest putting a layer of liquid latex on the outside of the gimmick. You can get it in clear or flesh tone. When you paint it on with a cheap paint brush, it does not look right but when it dries it is clear flesh color. Look for the liquid latex in a store that sells clown make up or theatrical make up. It is very cheap. I did a silk lecture one time and had children and ladies palming hank balls and palmos with no problem. I even had them shake and swing their hand violently with not on person dropping the palmed gimmick. Oh, by the way, when the latex gets old or worn, it peels off with no trouble. Do not get the latex around your silks until after it dries. Hope that helps. David |

Thanks for your offer, Richard. Even though I think the Rice Dye Tube seems to be working fine with the moleskin, I will PM you.
Darkwing, I am ok with the palming, but your suggestion is great! I might just have to do that anyway, because I always love something that makes a perfect gimmick even better. Quote:

It will be my pleasure to honor your father, Harold Rice, by doing an elegant and mind boggling performance with his beautiful dye tube. I will be sure and post this performance on my website http://www.magicmorningstar.com when my new video is complete in January. I absolutely LOVE the dye tube, the silk book, and the Serpent Silk. You sent them so quickly! Your dad's silk book, "Thru The Dye Tube", is full of so many great ideas! I feel like I discovered a secret gold mine full of silk magic! Magicians, check out: http://www.silkkingmagic.com Thanks! Autumn

You can also spray it with a light spray adhesive that is used for athletic taping or plle valuting. It used to be called "Tough Skin" and was sold by Cramer products.
Or you could use a repositionable stencil spray which has less tack to it. Richard BTW. Autumn, got your pm but please just write me on regular email as I do not always check this forum and in light of recent problems it could be lost.
