From time to time routining a trick can give you writers block. You get stumped.
Then the second you pick up ANY other trick you can routine it in a jiffy with enthusiasm that relights the love of creating good magic. The Balloon to Rabbit trick is killing me. Please help me to enjoy performing it with any tips, experience or funny stories you all may have. Thanks. |

While searching I found this nice bit of business from 'Jakeg'
"at the count of three the balloon will change to any color you call out .. one ... two .... but before we do that trick" Also, to enjoy performing the routine more, I will consider dressing up the helper with cape, hat etc... |

A better way to situate that joke would be "three... two... One last thing before we do that!

I never used a helper doing that trick. I used it as a running gag throughout the show and would end the show with the production of the rabbit. The kids would call out the color that they wanted the balloon to change to, and no matter what they said, I would call out a different color.
When I did school fund raisers I would give a rabbit away at every show. I was mostly working the husking's so it was no problem. I would always tell the winner to tell his mom that the gestation period would be over in about 6 weeks and that they can expect up to 9 little bunnies. By the time that my show was packed up the kid would come up to return the rabbit because his mommy wouldn't let him keep it. I used the same rabbit for the better part of a year. I still have the balloon to rabbit box, but the chamber has to be relined with felt. (No big deal.) I don't know why I'm holding on to it. I think that there is no stronger finish for a kids show than a live rabbit production. |

If you can twist a white balloon into a rabbit shape, do that first and then comment on what a poor balloon rabbit you have made. Offer to make it change color instead. When it finally changes into the rabbit, keep pretending that it is the most realistic balloon rabbit you have ever made. Comment on how heavy it seems to be and how it almost seems alive. And to think, I just blew it up from one of these skinny balloons.

I have performed the trick twice since the first post. Im pretty sure that it was just missing the "empowering the child" element of the trick.
So basically the routine goes a lil something like this now: - Give the Birthday kid a wand, funny hat and cape. - Tell em whats going to happen. - Pump up a balloon with lots of jokes. - Remove tarp from stand - Pop the balloon manually with a tack on your wand (Dont trust the mechanism) - Kids go nuts - Give the kid a certificate - Round of applause for rabbit and the birthday kid - Finishes the show nicely into Photo time If a joke springs to mind post it up! |
