I need a new jumbo coin I'm deciding between the one at penguin and the one at hocus pocus. its a $20 difference I think one is chrome plated and the other is silver plated? it could be the same thing but if anyone could tell me the difference of quality between the two that'd be helpful. thanks.

Hi TKE, before you get carried away you might want to consider one thing. I am going to be in the market for a 3" jumbo soon myself, but I am looking for one with a matching [ first. I know several routines where it would be quite advantageous to have both the jumbo and the [. I think you would be best off to get both together, so they match up properly or as good as possible, then getting them seperately. It is just something you may want to think about first.....
Where I go, so do my coins.....

TKE...
I am pretty sure these are the same coins... They just may be the Todd Plaster's.. The only reason one is more is because one is a Walker and one is a Kennedy.. They also sell them at hank lee magic... Both are chrome and both are very nice.. I would say go for the one at penguin.. but by it from hank lee... Same thing... Good luck. Shawn.

Hi TKE,
I had a 3" chrome Kennedy half that I bought many years ago, but wear, tear, drops, and some bad flash paper experiments eventually rendered it shot. I replaced it by doing this: I went to my local brick and mortar magic shop and bought a non-plated coin and then had it silver plated. The plating cost $35.00 (The place I had it plated charges by size). Call around and get some quotes. The jumbo coin's color and specularity really matches my 1964 halves (much better than chrome), so it was worth it to me (and definitely cheaper than getting a solid silver jumbo coin!). BTW: I had this done over three months ago and the coin still looks great, a little light buffing/cleaning occasionally keeps it tarnish-free (just like the halves). I use the coin as a climax to my Coins Across routine, so it gets a lot of use. Just another option... Douglas M. |

I got one from penguin and it started to flake and chip on me within a year. I treat my props like gold(nothing is cheap enough to waste). I then ordered from themagicwarehouse.com . The magic warehouse's were 100x better quality...i have had it for 3 years with out a flake and it cleans like a charm....anyone have the same problem? BTW, hanklee is #1, they won't disappoint you.

Todd Plaster used to have a website...something like..youwantitwegot.com. He did have a nice variety of jumbos, including walking liberties. You might try to locate him Joshua.
Also, I agree with godhandz, his are the best I have seen. I saw a jumbo kennedy recently that I was told was being made by Johnson. About 8 inch diameter and very heavy. Very heavy chrome plate also. The price was about $100. You might check if they have other coins in their line too, this was a nicely made item, no pot metal here. |
