What you are asking about is re-inducing trance. No matter what you have seen on TV there is no 'magic phrase' that will cause a subject to go into trance.
Sorry to burst your bubble. Now start reading the other threads (starting with the FAQ). |

Course it was....
Why would you like me to do it quicker? Your already in trance...we only swap one for another constantly... Now induction for what purpose and what kind of trance...????? Stage is not the start and end of trance.....only stage work. |

There are a number of fast inductions... get ormand mcgills encyclopedia of hypnotism...he mentions a jerk induction... also anything by milton erickson is worth reading... he used to do a handshake induction that was so good many of his colleagues refused to shake hands with him. derren brown uses fast inductions using pattern interupts...

The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.

Induction is part of the show.
It helps to meet participants expectations. It provides deep trance. It is good theatre. Why do a rapid induction on stage? Obviously one doesn't want to take 20 minutes to do an induction, but whats with the rush? In fact, a good induction can be the most dramtic and memorable part of the show.... Why be in a hurry? So we have time for three more silly skits? Of which, they will need to be deepening skits becasue of the fast induction? I will take a ten minute well thought out induction that is interesting over a 15 second induction ANY day of the week.... Richard

It is easier to take people where they expect to go. They expect an induction. You have to give them one. You may as well eliminate the word sleep as well if you want to do fast inductions and explain how hypnosis though it resembles sleep actually is not sleep.
Speed inductions have a place. I will often do one on someone who has been hypnotised before to "model behavior" but then when the whole group is on stage it is time for the real thing in their eyes. It is a very cool part of the show for people. Mine is actually an edge of the seat moment, and I milk it for the whole 6 minutes it takes.

Sandman (Jesse) does the longest induction I have seen on stage, and includes convincers. It takes about thirty minutes from when they get onstage to the first skit, but he makes it interesting and part of the show. In fact, sometimes its better than the skits...

The induction always starts before the induction starts. I know, your saying huh. You are only focusing on the culmination of the jerk and sleep and passing by all that went on before that moment. The actions the hypnotist took. The words that were carefully chosen and woven into a tapestry that left the one hypnotized with only one road to traverse. The deed was done the moment that person stepped foot upon the stage.
The volunteer wanted to be hypnotized. The Great YouSleepy had the power to hypnotize and painted the picture upon the volunteers mind of what being hypnotized was to be. Upon being taken ahold of and being told to sleep he was immediately teletransported into that utopic world of great rest and relaxation that he already wanted to be in. There was no where else to go, both had played their roles perfectly and entered the world of the Comedy Hypnosis Show. So the next time you see an instant induction do a fast rewind and analyze what you saw before that moment. It is a marvelous scene of great proportions and when you understand it thoroughly you will have arrived. Martin

Wow Martin. Extremely well written. I think it is vital when trying to 'understand' hypnosis, we not only assess the words and actions used during the induction, but more importantly the setting and the surroundings. I was once taught "if a person truly believes that you slapping them with a stick of celery will induce the most fantastic, deepest state of relaxation one can possibly imagine, slapping them with a celery stick will induce hypnosis." It has been said many times, but people attend hypnosis shows believing that you can hypnotise...else it wouldn't be much of a show. Hence, 90% of the work has already been done.
