The link where he THROWS the band on the other is amazing.
Does it just come with a DVD or are there any rubberbands included? |

I preordered mine a week ago and looking forward to it. When you say your 1 - 2 weeks behind, does that mean August delivery? Also does the price include a gimmick and dvd?

Hi guys,
A few answers and updates: - Just to be clear, sickmagic and I talked about Daniel's version when I began working on the DVD, not the effect. I made the gimmick in 2000 or 2001 if I recall correctly, and first performed the link publically a few days before my Magic Castle audition in 2001 (and IN my audition). Actually mentioned it to Daniel in a jam session during his first week working at the Castle, though that's neither here nor there. Although the effects look identical, his handling is completely different, as are the gimmicks and requirements/restrictions. My thing is inspired by the Al Koran pencil, and if you have that or Mike Caveney's Impromptu Linking Coathangers, then you will know what I'm talking about. - As far as TOSSING the band on from one to another, that was my original thought on how to do it, and how I showed it to my magic teacher and also performed it that way in a 2002 lecture in Tokyo. However, in order to really mess with peoples heads, I prefered to rub them together in such a way that somewhat mimmicks a linking rings move (going through a key behind your thumb). That puts the heat on the bands rather then on you and the space the link is happening in. For those of you who want to make your gimmick short, that handling will help throw people off the scent of the fact that you bring the bands close to your body to do the link. During filming, however, Dave Womach suggested and convinced me of the virtues of the toss, which I had discarded for a few years now. - The price of $30 I feel is pretty darn fair for a 2 hour dvd with my 12 years worth of work on CMH, plus Dean Dill's underground move (taught by Dean himself), Loren Michael's move (I aquired the rights to show a portion of his "Kick the Trick" lecture video), Michael Ammar's handling on the spectators hands (with permission of course), all the work on the gimmck (mine, Cyril's, and Dave's) including 3 different routines with the linking finger rings, plus my work on two otehr impromtu band effects. The reason for not including the gimmick is to make the dvd more affordable to everyone. By the time I aquire all the gimmick materials, ship it, pay for it to be safetly packaged in a dvd box (bad idea), and then the shops tack on their percentage, it would have made it a $45-$50 dvd. For those who just want the CMH work, or just want the Linking Finger Rings work (there is a routine with just a himber gimmick), and/or the 2 other impromtu band effects, I felt anything above $30 is a bit much. I'm not a big fan of packaging things together to force people to spend more (like spreading relevant material over a 3 dvd set rather then putting one complete topic per dvd). On the dvd I teach you how to make the gimmick. It's pretty darn easy and inexpensive to do it yourself. For Cyril, I just TOLD him how to make it. He never even SAW it! All I had to do was explain and he was able to make it no problem, plus put his own twist on it. If there is huge demand to make the Link gimmick available for sale, maybe in the future it will be put out SEPERATELY to keep the price as low as possible. But it seems silly to me at this point. With Mike Caveney's Impromtu Linking Coathangers it makes total sense to have it for sale, because it would be very difficcult to make properly (I own it and love it, great buy). But my design is so simple that you are much better off to just make it yourself. - Regarding delivery, its out of my hands at this point but I certainly hope and believe it will be before August. Once the replicator is done with it, it gets shipped to Murphy's and my fullfiller, then immediately out to you. I am using a fullfiller in the states because shipping things out here (I live near Guam) would take forever. Regards, Nabil |

Easier? Well, it could be debated that Daniel's version is easier in a few ways. Easier to make? Definitely. Easier to set-up? Sure. For those reasons I feel its worth getting his DVD. So I listed Daniel Garcia Project in my "Related Recommendations" in the LINK credits. However, I think once you have the gimmick prepared, the actual performance of LINK! looks smoother in set-up and cooler in that you can pull on the bands. However, if you are performing with people totally surrounding you, then you'd be really happy to have invested also in Daniels video, because you can still perform basically the same effect.
All that aside, that effect is just one of many on our DVDs. I'd hope that some of the other material has some value to you. One main goal with this DVD is to improve the ungimmicked CMH routine that we all do for people, and to have lots of guys performing it better and getting a lot more out of it. Another main goal was to show systematically over the first hour of the DVD how I broke down the routine, studied what was out there, and built on that over the years to improve the routine. In that, I hope to inspire you to do the same with all of your magic, and then share it with us all. Finally, I hope to show how you can apply some of the philosophies and thinking behind the magic into your other routines. |

I've never met you, but the way you write, you come across to me as one of the nicest people on the planet. Just one of those genuine spirits that you'd be proud to have in your family.
I know that has nothing to do with the effect, but it came to me as I read your posts.

As a personal friend of Nabils I can tell you that you are 100 percent correct about his character. He is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. In magic most people have burned me, however Nabil is one of the few that I can count on my one hand that has been a true friend and not just magic related!
Glad someone else noticed his true calling, which is his personality! |

Nabil, you got a place in Los Angeles and Munich, Germany if you like and I will rescue you from Istanbul anytime bro. You rock man. This is killer stuff! I am glad I pre-ordered it for that amazing low price. There are people out there who would kill for those effects. Keep up the genius brother.

Well, my original took awhile, because I was adjusting and changing as I went. Now it would take much less time. Probably your biggest time will be getting the materials, for which you will need a hobby shop and gun shop (I think I got the gun shop material at a Walmart. It is not a gun or gun part, but that's where you buy it). Once you make one, its pretty darn durable. I used the same one for years, and it only cost me a couple buck.
The hobby shop I bought my original material at closed down, so after I sent my original gimmick to Cyril for cross reference, and I needed some more to replace my original, I was in a spot of trouble. You see, I live on a tiny island now, and there are no hobby shops on island. Being in a hurry, I just cut up one of my Mike Caveney Impromtu Linking Coathanger Gimmick, added the gun shop material, made a few quick adjustments, and was rockin. Mikes effect is so great, that I bought myself 3 copies. So if you really can't find the stuff, then you can always order 2 of his effect: one to make my gimmick, and one because you will hate yourself for cutting that beautiful thing up. Sorry to be vague about the materials, but I'm trying to respect the secret here to avoid exposing not just my own thing but also Mr. Caveney's as well. Hope that helps. |

Just got word from the replicator: the dvds are shipped! My shipper will get the dvds on the 23rd, and ship them out ASAP. Also, Murphy's Magic Supplies is getting a huge shipment that's on its way as well, so if you prefer to buy it from your favorite online dealer or shop, it should be there soon. Is up at hocus-pocus.com right now!
Again, sorry for the delay. Hope its worth the wait! |
