I am looking for tricks that can be done with only one or two pieces of rope.
Any ideas? Thanks Kristian Denmark |

Where to start! There are thousands.
Check out the Karl Fulves book as a cheap first option. Mark Wilson has others. If you get serious, the Encyclopedia of Rope Magic has hundreds more. Fiber Optics (DVD) is very popular.

Welcome to the magic Café. Robert Jenkins is where I go for good info, because he really knows what he is talking about.

Ha! Al, there are many people here who know much more than me, you included.
But Kristian, we all love rope here, and will willingly type away on the subject for hours. Perhaps it would help to know more about the kind of thing you are looking for.

Hi All
Thanks for your answers. I will try to be a little more specific. I am about to a workshop where everybody should learn or try do do as I do, with a piece of rope/string. Maybe some puzzle (like the one where you challange them to tie a knot witout letting go of the ends - crossing the amrs) But it should be easy for them to follow. Any Ideas? Thanks Kristian Denmark |

The Karl Fulves book is where you should start, or you could come over to my house.

Are you attending the workshop or presenting it?
Is it other puzzles you are after? The threading the needle trick might suit you (Mark Wilson) Or perhaps some escape knots.

Or perhaps the rope through the neck. The Hunter puzzle knot is far more impressive when you put a ring on it.

Why not the classic Cut & Restored Rope? The most difficult is developing your own story line.

Speaking of rope through neck, I was fooling around the other day doing "fast and loose" for some people with a loop of rope, and to fill the time, did I the rope through neck with a loop of rope - the one that's in the Encyclopedia in two places (but wrong in one of them). Most folks do the Tenkai RTN with the single rope, and so do I - and I always thought the loop one was inferior. But to my surprise, people were impressed. So it's worth learning as an alternative.

No, the one on p345-6 (this is the correct version) but also wrongly on p 311 where the diagram is wrongly labelled. It has the advantage that you can put the rope (or appear to) under tension before pulling.

I'm sorry but that trick doesn't fool me at all. I will continue to do the Tenkai trick.

Fair enough. Like I say, it didn't impress me that much but people liked it.

The Tabray rope routine is one of the best. I use it all the time and it kills.

Hi Timothy
That looks good - could it be used in a workshop situation? Does the spectator tie the knot in the end (works for them?) Thanks Kristian Denmark |

Don't want to detract from Timothy's routine (which I haven't read), but the Hunter Puzzle Knot is well covered in Fulves, including a method whereby the spectator does eventually succeed - or rather, two spectators doing it together can succeed.
