Beer Rules and Clauses
Version 1.0 (03-Jun-2007) Pre-Clause 1.0: Agreement to the Beer Rules must be announced prior to the first player teeing off at the first hole. Pre-Clause 2.0: All beers purchased must be done on the same day as the round of golf unless the person who is to purchase the beers is unable to do so on that day. In that instance the owed beers can be held until the next meeting. Pre-Clause 3.0: While the purchaser of the beers can not determine what beer is purchased, the purchaser can declare the size of the beer if the establishment used to purchase beer has multiple sizes. E.G. they can declare that only the regular sized beer can be purchased and not a “Tall” beer. Pre-Clause 4.0: “Beer” refers to any beverage equal to, or of lesser value, than a standard brewed beverage. Therefore, Soda can be requested in place of beer, or a cocktail if the price of the cocktail is of equal or lesser value than the standard beers at that establishment. A player may declare prior to the round, at their own discretion, that if they have to purchase a “Beer” they will allow any beverage one desires. Pre-Clause 4.1: Any player requesting “Soda” in place of “beer” will be referred to as “Sissy Girl” and owes 1 “beer” to all members of the golfing party. Pre-Clause 5.0: A “Beer Equivalent” may be used if a player owed a “beer” wants to have a more expensive drink. The beer equivalent would then be used to cover that portion of the drink. E.G. Player C is owed a beer by Player A, so Player C asks for an $8.00 drink and Player A will cover one beer’s cost for that drink while Player C pays for the remainder. Rule 1.0: If all players except one hit a Green In Regulation* (GIR), the one player who did not hit a GIR must purchase one beer for each of the other players. • Clause A: This rule is only in effect if the group is 3 players or larger. • Clause B: If a player opts out of taking part in the beer rule, but there are three or more other players in the group, those other three players may continue and play according to the beer rules without the player(s) who opted out. • Clause C: If a player decides to opt out of the beer rule, the other players may decide to use his/her ball to determine beer purchases. Example: Players A, B and C agree to the beer rule, but Player D does not. Player A hits a GIR, Player B hits a GIR, Player C misses the GIR and Player D misses the GIR. No beer is owed by Player C. If Player D was not used according to Clause C, Player C would have had to have purchased beer for Players A and B. • Clause D: The beer earned according to Rule 1.0 may be nullified if the Player who owed the beer is able to score better than Par on the hole. *A Green In Regulation is any green in which the player’s next stroke is for birdie or better. Rule 2.0: If all players except one scores Par or better on a hole, the one player who scores worse than Par owes all other players a beer. Player A scores Par, Player B scores Par, Player C scores a bogie and Player D scores a double bogie. No beer is owed by Player C. If Player D was not used according to Clause C, Player C would have had to have purchased beer for Players A and B. • Clause D: Rule 2.0 is NOT applicable to a player who already owed a beer according to Rule 1.0, however it IS still applicable to all other players. Example: Players A, B, and C hit a GIR but Player D does not. Player D owes Players A, B, and C a beer. If on that exact same hole all players score Par or better except Player D, Rule 1.0 predominates and Player D only owes ONE beer. Rule 3.0: If a player hits a Hole In One, all other players in that group owe him/her a beer. • Clause A: This applies if the group is two or more players. • Clause B: This rule is not nullified by any other rules. Therefore, if a player hits a Hole In One and Rule 1.0 is also put into effect, the person buying beers according to Rule 1.0 will ALSO purchase the player who scored the Ace a beer. This is the only time in which one player will have to purchase two beers for one person on a hole. • Clause C: It is noted, and dually noted, that the standard practice of a player, scoring a Hole In One, buying all parties at the bar a drink is ludicrous. IfWhen these rules are physically brought into play on the day the Hole In One is scored, said standard practice is NOT expected of the Acer.
