The convention is about a month away. Who is planning on going?

I have been a member for quite a few years but this will be the first convention for my family and myself. Any tips or insights that previous convention attendees would like to share would be greatly appreciated.

peace,

Hi Phill
I will be there. It is my fifth time. I will be helping at the registration area. All I can say is have a good time and try to learn as much as possible. Take good notes. There is so much going on it will be hard to attend all the lectures that will look interesting to you. From the start of the day until the last late night event you may not get a lot of sleep. Then there is Steak and Shake after that!
There are lots of things for your family. My wife tired of going to the magic lectures and now does balloons and face painting. There are classes for young children as well as teen events.
If you eat three meals a day on campus you will leave a bigger person.
If you have any specific questions you can send me a PM or just respond here.
Looking forward to meeting you.

Chris -
Thanks for the tips.
I will be spending most of my time in the balloon area, as that is my main area. In fact, I am giving two lectures on balloons - both of which are "program" oriented, rather than learning new sculptures. The first lecture focuses on different events in the life of Christ and the second one focuses on a birthday party for adults.
Looking forward to meeting you at registration. Thanks again.

Well if DocEdward isn't going this year, then I'M not going either!

Sorry Doc but I needed a better excuse than, 'I can't take a week off from work during that month'.

Phill- best to you on your lectures. May you have standing room only.

I hope everyone has a GREAT time!

Phil,
Last year was our first year and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are bringing two of our grown daughters and their children with us this year and have reserved a townhouse. I fully endorse Chris' comments above. Our favorite time was the fellowship of new friends in the Caféteria.

Great facilities.

See you in Marion,
IHS/Ron

Hope to see you all this year. This will be my first year performing on the evening program. They're finally bringing me out from just MCing the Late Show.

That being said, this convention is the one I look forward to all year. If for nothing more than to see everyone I come to know and love.

Hey Joey,
S'bout time they got you on the Evening Show bill! I'll be there and rootin' for ya!

And for the rest of you that will be there, we ought to all connect for a "First Annual Café Members" meeting. Maybe we can even develop a secret handshake ;o)

See ya down the road!

Sorry to say I will not be there this year. It will miss working backstage but with my new job it will be impossible. For those of you that have not heard, I am the new General Manager at the Magic Beyond Belief theater in Pigeon Forge, TN. This is Terry Evanswood's new theater. The FCM is now looking for a new Backstage manager for the convention. So if anyone is available and interested contact Barbara Varro.

Currently I am staying with a good friend, Barry Mitchell, here in Sevierville. He just told me that he will be at FCM this year so bring your wallets cause he has some good stuff.

If any of you make it to Pigeon Forge, make sure to check out Terry's show. It is fantastic.

Sorry to hear that you are going to miss the convention this year. I was hoping to get some video tips from you.
You will be missed back stage I'm sure. I hope things work out great for you in Pigeon Forge. Hope to see you when I'm in the area.

I would love to go and one of these years I will make it. Just can't do it this time either. My work has been insanely crazy, I won't go into details. I have commitments at my church with high school ministry and am going to partner up with a couple others and start up a "new" college age group. I will be taking a week off next month to go to our high school summer camp. Already had to turn down an opportunity to go to Japan on a 2 week mission trip (that might possibly happen next year).
Yeah, so maybe next year or the year after that, I can make the FCM convention a priority. I am sure it would be well worth it. Blessings to all of you that will be there and who work hard to make it happen.

Good News, My wife and I will be able to attend the convention this year. See you all on Sunday or Monday. Is anyone arriving on Sunday? Maybe we could get together for dinner or some good conversation.

There is a nice group that comes in on Sunday. There is a sunday evening program in the Auditorium. It's put on by the Heritage Club (Members with more that 25 years of continous membership in the FCM). A great show and beginning to the convention.

Most people get to gether at either Bob Evans, Stake and Shake or the Western sizzler.

See you on Sunday!

I am looking forward to being there. This will be my third time. I love the convention and am constantly surprised that more Canadians don't make the trip. Especially from Ontario. Although, I come from Alberta, I live so far north that I have to drive 8 hours before I can get to the Edmonton airport to take me to Indianapolis.

Mind you, at least I didn't have to use a dogsled. Thank goodness the convention is in the summer!

Lorne:

Your efforts in putting up with an eight hour drive to get close enough to fly in to be with us is commendable.

Thank you. We'll see you next week!

The convention was great. There is never enough time to attend everything. Well worth the time and cost to be able to fellowship and enjoy a great week. Oz and Wild did an outstanding job as MCs on the final evening. Looking forward to the Jubilee (50th) convention next year.
