Hi all. I've been going around from board to board looking for any information I can regarding regurgitation. I've come up more or less completely dry except someone pointed me to you fine people. So, does anyone here know any resources for learning this fine skill? Specifically in terms of water, not the swallowing of lemons and cockroaches etc. Like that chap from the 40s (I think) who would "fountain" water out of his mouth.
Thanks for anything you might be able to offer. -Sean Covernton |

You're looking for info on regurgitation and so far, have come up dry?
Am I the only one who found that funny?

I got it!
I believe the fellow Sean is referring to is Hadji Ali. If you ever have a chance to see Laurel and Hardy's film "Politiquerias" (unsure of the spelling, but it's the Spanish language version of "Chickens Come Home"), you can see Mr. Ali's act. Truly nothing like it! See ya! Joe L.

Right, Joe L.
Hadji Ali (or however he spelled it) was a headliner in the '40s, doing regurgitation. One of his features: He would drink several pitchers of water, then a pitcher of kerosene. The kerosene floated on top of the water in his stomach. He would regurgitate the kerosene onto a burning doll house, sending the flames high into the air; then regurgitate the water to put the fire out. He paid a terrible price for that, though. The kerosene eventually affected his entire system and he died from it at a relatively young age. |

Necromancer- And here I was wondering if anybody caught that =)
Yeah, that would be the guy... I saw him on some show a while back. Narrated by Harry Anderson as I recall. I started thinking about spouting water and how unusual that was. Kind of like mouth coils but more disgusting (can you imagine if the water were dyed green?) Just for the record I do not intend to try anything as life-threatening as kerosene. -Sean Covernton |

I've seen Stevie Star/Starr do a regurgitation act a number of times on tv, including several times on Leno.
However--and to my great disappointment--a common friend says it is misdirection and "magic" rather than real. |

Part of what is done is misdirection. However, there is an element of doing it for real, too. Read "Memoirs of a Sword Swallower" by Daniel Mannix and look at the chapter that mentions the Human Ostrich - he did a nice little rat-swallowing routine.

You mean there IS a "nice little rat-swallowing routine"! (That's enough to make me want to be a mime!) |

For anyone who's interested, I believe POLITIQUERIAS can still be purchased on VHS, although it would probably have to be special ordered through your friendly neighborhood Blockbuster.
Besides the unforgettable performance by Mr. Ali, the film also includes a well done turn by Cantu The Magician, as well as the sheer joy of listening to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy speak Spanish! See ya! Joe L.

Well, I guess some will take the 'anything goes better on a Ritz' a bit too far.

I think Stevie Starr is from Scotland, not Canada (although half of the Canadian probably came from Scotland at some point!) but I may be mistaken. He sounds Scottish when he speaks, anyway.
