Depends on what method you're using and how much time you spend learning it. I spent a slow afternoon at work learning the component sequences of the Petrus method, then a couple of two-hour train journeys shaving the time down.
My technique was never very good, but without going beyond the basic Petrus method (no crazy extended sequences or contortionist wrist-action) I managed to get my time down to under two minutes without that much effort at all. Just practise and good habits. |

I still like the cube. But don't you think our audiences want something different now?

I consider myself a fairly fast cube solver. I can do it in between 1.5-2 minutes. Very rarely does it take me more than 2.
I learned to solve the cube years ago when I was about 10 using this solution book. http://tinyurl.com/25m634 I am sure there are some more updated references out there, but this book is straight forward and simple. Using this technique, one can solve the puzzle in under 2 minutes with practice. Using some of the supplied shortcuts you should be able to solve it in under 1.5 minutes. I have not explored techniques for "speed solving", but again, the basic solution is more than most will ever need and it is quite simple and straight forward. |

Tony reportedly prefers the Ann Arbor cube as he was later able to 'update' it. You might notice that the Ann Arbor cube doesn't have a base and sits in the cement. Thank's J ACK and to everyone else for the kind words. The day we shot the cube video it was 0 degrees out and the cuber's hands kept going numb. How we suffer for our art.

I sort of like what Patrick Kuffs did to the rubiks cube.

I am very lazy and don't like using my brain too much, so what are some of the gaffed or fake rubiks cube methods out there for solving the cube?
Doesn't Daryl have one where you throw it in the air messed up and it comes down solved!?!? |

I have a cube. I've had it for a long time and when I try to solve it I end up looking at it for a long time trying to make some sense of what to do next turning this way and that. I then get distracted and put it down. Someday I would like to know how to solve it. Very cool videos. BTW, what is Osterlind doing with the cube in his new Dvd?

Garrett was the first to come up with the matching mixed cube concept. Garrett's been a friend for many years and has some wonderful ideas when it comes to the cube and otherwise. What I've done with the cube is a bit different than what's been done before, however still I went and received his permission to shoot the effect for the link that I posted above before we shot and fully developed the piece. Are you sure it's the same? I believe the Garrett version is totally different. Doesn't Garrett solve it for real in his routine? Isn't it different on his DVD? I have heard people on both sides with this.... someone says it's the same, someone says its different. I havent seen it, so I can't be certain, but I have read a lot of comments about it. Tom |

Here's my version of the Rubik's Cube routine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRlL4fLLifc I take over five minutes to do so, but I think I make up in style, what I lack in speed.

So... we read minds, can foretell the future, bend metal with our minds, influence others thoughts.... AND we solve rubick's cubes? It seems almost gimmicky.
