Does anybody know where I can find a vent routine for"Who's on first"? I saw that a script was available on an auction so I know its out there.

Try searching it at google and I'm sure you'll get one. Willie Tyler and Lester, the great legendary American vent team, do this in their act.

It originally was a routine about working at a nut and bolt factory that abbot and costello evolved to who's on first. I saw the script for it once, seems it had lines like "what do you do at the factory"
"Nuttin" "they pay you to do Nuttin?" "You bet they do" And they pay you to do nuttin all day Well sometimes I do nuttin til noon, then I bolt etc. Pretty funny routine too.
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

I'm not sure what you mean by "modified for vent?" You can simply take one of the parts yourself and have the dummy do the other part. Doug |

The original is very long and in some places Abbott and Costello talk at the same time to say"3rd base" as a punch line. The dummy (Claude)and I cant speak at the same time. This was a shorter script for vents. I saw it on an auction but was too late to bid. Anybody know what I mean?-Rev.Bill

Sorry, I can't help you with the routine on auction. The wheel has already been invented. Why don't you just re-write the 'Who's on First" routine to suit your needs? Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you looking for a spoon feeding? Doug |

No spoon feeding necessary. If a tried and true script is available why write another? That would be re-inventing a wheel. I just want to check out one that is already available.

Keep in mind that Bud and Lou copyrighted their version of Who's on First. However, it's an ancient burlesque premise and there are versions floating around that predate Abbott and Costello; some of these even utilize the baseball theme.

Rev Bill:
There are a great many vents doing the "Who's on First" routine and I have seen several of them. What all of them did was simply leave out the "third base" in unison and do the rest of the routine exactly as was originally written. There may well be shortened versions out there but anyone I have ever seen doing the routine, always did the full thing. As Joe mentioned, it is a copywrited routine but that certainly hasn't stoppped a lot of vents from using it. Doug |
