Hi there. I plan on ordering some flash paper (first time) and am wondering a few things. First, should I order the Flash Pad (20 sheets) or the Flash Paper (4 sheets) Is there any benefit to ordering one rather than the other? Next, are there any books on fire magic, specifically flash paper? I know a few tricks, vanish, dove pan effects. Any others that you can reveal on the boards?
Thank you, Dustyn |

I personally prefer the sheets to the pads as sometimes I need a bigger piece and can always cut down a sheet to a pad sized piece if need be.
Flash paper isn't an effect in and of itself, it is meant to enhance presentaion or provide misdirection for other effects.

Drew is right, flash paper is not an effect - it is used to aid in an effect.
Also, I personally like the Flash Pads (for what I do). It's personal preference and what you'll be using it for. -Vinnie |

I find flash pads to be good for small devices like hand flashers etc, but for effects like fire to silk, I prefer the sheets. The sheets are also easier for effects like Fire Flight.

Buying by the sheet is usually more economical as well

Here are a few General Flash Paper books to get you started:
Flash Lights by Jim Sherman Flash Paper Tips by Robsin & Read Magic City Library of Magic Vol. 19: Flash Paper Special Effects with Fire and Smoke Book There are many great routines on other books and videos. Some of my favorites are found in: The Berglas File Vol. 1 Next Victim Please... |

Buying by the sheet is more economical as you get more square inches for your buck , but I find the pads are convenient when I have use of a small piece for closeup and strolling

I buy the big sheets and I cut two of them down into small size sheets and I carry them with me in a money clip for walk around magic I think you can get about 10 small sheets out of 1 big sheet.
Make it a great day or not the choice is yours.

Flash paper is great for productions, changes, misdirection etc. and I know this does not address the original question, however since this is your first time, before ordering I would recommend checking ahead of time with anyone you may be working for to see if using fire is a problem. Many establishments do not allow fire effects do to the safety risk. I have been told that even the Magic Castle does not allow flash paper to be used while performing.
Just a little food for thought. Best Wishes,
Joe
