Of course not. It's unfortunate that these days we have to be so polite, and are told we have to consider and lend creedence to such notions that absolve EVERYBODY of EVERYTHING that we can't just turn to somebody who asks "is Benoit still to blame?" and say "shut up stupid".

I think what it likely came down to was you have a guy who was at the end of his career, had the stress of a marriage to a woman who was in the same business to some extent. She may have asked for a divorce, WWE may have told him that the upcoming match would be his last, either way he decided rather than deal with things another way he killed his wife. Like many, too many, who kill the wife they don't want the child raised without a mother so the kid is killed. No where else to turn the choice is life in prison and dealing with the public and police or killing ones self.
Take an aggressive guy, and they have to be aggressive to be in that job, and take away his fame and fortune and they turn to the dark side of their personality. Too bad because it wasn't neccessary at all and he is obviously a weak person for giving in to his anger and self pitty to kill anyone. |

You can't BLAME the fans for "Driving" wrestlers to steroids because if the person has a good wrestling character and CAN WRESTLE the fans really don't care what kind of shape they are in.
Look at Andre the Giant, King Kong Bundy, Yokozuna, Bubba Dudley, SPIKE Dudley, Big Dick Dudley, Big John Studd, Rick Flair Etc, NONE of these guys look like they take steroids. The one thing they have in common is THEY CAN WRESTLE. Now PROMOTORS have a favorite body type that they prefer but just because someone is in shape doesn't guarantee the wrestler will be popular or good. |

It should be said that a number of the wrestlers are well educated and successful business men. The big guy from Texas who got a haircut and looked completely different (sorry I don't recall his name) runs a very respected investment company. The guy who was a road warrior builds commercial properties and malls with his compay, Kane was a teacher, and so forth.

And I do think it is hypocritical to one day root for Benoit (or anyone like him) when he is widely known to have been be using drugs that are thought to lead to paranoia and mental / personality defects, and the next day turn around and call him evil or whatever when he finally snaps. And note that the WWE (actually, the WWF) _used_ to test for steroids ... but scrapped that back in 1996. He "SHARES IN" the blame?! He's the primary possessor of the blame. Others can "share in" that portion which isn't his (I make it about 0.0001%).
Lots of people use roids. Relatively few of them commit multiple murders.

Anyone old enough to remember "The Flip Wilson Show" probably recalls Flip's "Geraldine" character, whose catchphrase was "The DEV-il MADE me DO it." It was, of course, an humourous slap at missing personal accountability, a phenomenon then (c. 1973) just gaining momentum.
Substitute "drugs," "bad childhood," "lack of opportunity," "rabid fans," "job pressures," or "________" for the term "Devil," and it becomes clear that the attitude mocked by Flip's phrase is more prevalent than ever: "It's not MY fault." In recent memory, there has been only one exemplary exception to this trend, which took place just before Karla Faye Tucker was executed in a Texas prison. You remember Tucker, she of drug-induced behaviour alteration, who swung a pick-axe into the chest of her victim? She became a model prisoner, who converted to Christianity while in prison, and on the bases of these changes sought clemency. She is not the example. Rather, that example was made at the same time by another prisoner on death row who also converted to Christianity. But instead of using his conversion and subsequent behavioural improvement as leverage in requesting clemency, he instructed his attorney not to appeal. This man, of anyone else who currently comes to mind, said, in essence: "I chose to commit the crime, and now accept its punishment." None may say what judgment awaits Benoit beyond this place, but the one he leaves behind is none but ignominy. |

Interestingly, Wikipedia listed Benoit's wife as deceased a full 14 hours before police found her body. The police are now trying to track down who posted this update.

I also agree that there are a heck of a lot of bogus reasons given by those accused of henious crimes as to why they did what they did...the devil made me do it...etc. etc. etc. However, I would only add that there are people who are so ill (mentally) that they are incapable of appreciating the significance of their actions. Someone like Ed Gein, for example, was just off the charts nuts. I'm not saying we don't punish them...I'd prefer they be locked up just as much as anyone. My point is that it is very easy to sit back and point the finger at someone who has done something ugly...but the truth is, you don't know what it was like inside their head, and you never will. Ultimately, this is just a very sad story. Very sad indeed. |

THIS JUST IN.... The announcement of Nancy Benoit's death was added to Chris Benoit's Wikipedia bio FOURTEEN HOURS BEFORE her body was found by police! They say the posting was made by an anonymous user on a computer in Stanford, CT. I read about the wekipedia post this morning. Interesting but it may very well be nothing. WhatI mean by that is it could have meen someone messing around and had no idea of the very terrible things that were going on at that moment and continued untill Monday. If someone knew about this at that time and did not try to contact the propper channells they should be found and dealt with to as being an accessory and witholding information.
I feel thou that this was someone that actually had no clue to what was really taking place. As I said if they did no there just as much to blame. Randy |

I don't give a *** who pushed him to use drugs. It was his choice to choose them. Fan pressure? Give me a break. Tell fan pressure to lil spike dudley on steroid use. And I don't care whether the drugs screwed him up or not. It's about choice and accountability. Benoit CHOSE to kill his wife. Benoit CHOSE to KILL his SON. He is beyond redemption. I hope for his sake there is a way for him to make good in the afterlife, for if there truely is only a hell waiting for him and those of his ilk, then he has surely made an awful eternal bed.

Grown men are responsible for their actions. HE took the drugs, pretty clear cut.
As for the conspiracy about the posting, hmmm wow lets speculate and maybe make an already unclear situation even more unclear and make it even worse for the surviving members of the extended family and his friends. Yea that is a great idea. As if it is not horrific enough, lets add needless speculation about Bigfoot comming in and doing it and planting the steroids. THAT will help the friends and remaining family yea. Oh anyone know where the head office of the WWE is anyhow? Lets speculate some more shall we? Dosn't HHH live in Connecticut? Maybe HE posted it! The tragedy is over, so let it be over. Let the dignity that remains in the situation, if there is any, stay. It is the right thing to do.

But I wish people would also use this opportunity to speak up and tell the WWE that it is unacceptable that they no longer test for steroids, promote the use of steroids [hell, McMahon was indicted back in the 90s for distributing steroids, and he admitted that he took steroids himself], and celebrate wrestlers that do use steroids. If something good is to come out of this tragedy, then perhaps WWE fans will take a stand and tell the WWE that enough is enough, and to develop some backbone when it comes to drug testing. Stop supporting this "sport" until it cleans up its act.

Actually the WWE does have a VERY STRICT drug and steroid use policy. Wether they do random drug tests on the superstars or not is a different story. Actually, I heard Kurt Angle was fired from the WWE for use of steroids.
