I am just back to the States after spending 2 weeks on the road with Ryan and his crew. I have known Ryan for some time and have seen him grow as an entertainer as well as a businessman - If any of you get the chance, check it out. I do know his fall tour is something like 16 weeks and begins in August. Hopefully I will be able to fit it into my schedule to be on that one as well.
Congrats Ryan!

Steve -

I was just curious as to what capacity do you assist Ryan with his show?

I came on board as a consultant for 2 weeks to fine tune and tweak the show from a production aspect. I have been doing a good deal of production work over the past several years as well as my own show. Recently I have stepped oput of the magic arena a bit and have been doing large scale concert shows. ZZTopp, Hinder, Evenescence, Velvet Revolver. It is a completely different beast out in the "real" world.

The concerts are pretty cool - I get to meet a ton of people ! Loads of work though !
I may be in the Kansas City area this fall - I'll be sure to let you know.
As it stands right now, I will be in HK at the end of July through the 9th of August and then back to Canada for Sorcerers Safari and hopefully a few dates with Ryan.
All the best,
Steven Kline

Mike: thanks for your kind words. It was a great pleasure to see you, Jenn and Sammy at CAM, and we are all looking forward to this year's Camp!

Kline: Glad you could make it on the tour and helping out by bringing your expertise to the table. The entire crew is looking forward to having you back and certainly hope you can join us for the Western tour.

ALL:
For those of you who don't know Kline's background in addition to the concerts he mentioned above he is also involved with producing many gala shows at magic conventions across North America.

The thing to keep in mind in all this is that in our profession (and I am specifically meaning the 'grand illusionist' genre of magic) we rely on many people to make us look good on stage, as well as ensuring things run smooth backstage, offstage, in promotion and on and on. My company employs upwards of 75 people who are highly specialized at what they do. As a magician we have to be masters of many trades and I am the first one to admit that I have the reputation of picking up a welding torch one minute and hopping on a sewing machine the next. However the most efficient way for an entertainer to become the best at what they do is to involve people who are the best at what they do.

My 2 cents.

Best Regards,

Ryan

Ryan's show is indeed worth seeing. Especially his levitation is a beautiful piece both presentation- and prop-wise. Ryan, I do hope I managed to film SOME seconds you can use with the steadi rig!!! LOL

Kline, it was SO great to finally meet in person. Next time at Boston Pizza, I will grab that beer! Take care man!

Mika: Thanks for your kind words. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Canada, glad to finally meet you. You are right, there will be levitation footage posted soon… with a few steadi-cam shots too!

Christopher: Yes sir, we have a promotional sales team of 75 in 4 stationary offices scattered across Canada and 2 satellite (traveling) offices. On the road our crew size is 6 …doing the work of 10!

Kline: Had a blast down your way in Ohio this past week! Glad to discover the second best thing other than magic … the Waffle House.

Best,
Ryan

Hey Ryan,

Do you ever bring your show to Calgary or Saskatoon? I'd love to see it.

Hello Lou,

The closest to Calgary that we'll be coming this year is Lethbridge, Red Deer and Brooks, Wetaskiwin... which are all very close. There are many more AB dates most of which are northern.

As far as Saskatchewan we play a handful of dates: Saskatoon, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Yorkton.

We'd love to have you come out to one of the shows.

Best,
Ryan

Ryan, just out of curiosity are you running your own phone rooms or does a producer run them and then hire your company as talent for the tour?

Ryan is producing another show at the moment and will be away from the Café for a while so I'll answer this one for you. Ryan acts as his own producer and oversees everything including the phone rooms himself.

Best,

Tim

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIT ON RYAN JOYCE PHONE ROOMS
I would like to answer Adam Christophers question concerning the promotions for Ryan Joyce. 99% of the promotions for Ryan Joyce are handled by a very highly trained promotor out of Barrie Ontario who has worked exclusively for my Company and my company only, known of course as "PAUL ROYTER PRODUCTIONS" This individual has been doing promotions for my company for over fifteen years. All of Ryan Joyce's promoted shows have been handled by my company under this individual since Paul Royter Productions decided to put Ryans stage show on the road some seven years ago. As many of you may or may not realize Ryan Joyces shows have been managed exclusively by my company from the begining of his career until January of this year when I agreed to allow Ryan to form his own production company. At the same time as this happened I arranged with the promoter in Barrie for the formation of his own promtotion company as well. My work internationally does not allow me to dedicate as much time to either Ryans show or my own so this is why I have agreed to allow Ryan to form his own company and this gives him more freedom to do what he likes and come and go where he likes.

For those that read Tim Drakes post although I respect Tim very much but he didn't quite get it 100% correct.

Ryan Joyce has absolutely nothing to do with the management of the promotion company but is now infact in complete control of his own production company. Our promoter in Barrie does the promotions excluvely for the Paul Royter Show and the Ryan Joyce Show as well as two other shows managed by Ryan at this time. We have an agreement that he is not allowed to run promotions for anyone else without my approval. All of the salaries, who gets fired and hired etc is all managed by this company out of Barrie seperate and apart from Paul Royter Productions and Theatrix International (Ryans new company). Ryan has nothing to do with the salaries of any of the individuals that work selling or delivering tickets.

I just wanted to set the record straight on this.... Thanks

Paul Rkoyter
