I don't think Chris S was attacking the use of gaffs. I know him personally and believe me, he uses gaffs. However, Chris could perform just about all of his routines without gaffs and still make them look as good.

I think the definition of a purist being "somebody who doesn't use gaffs" is fine, however are there any people like this? Rune Klan, anybody else? In fact, I would have my doubts anybody who does this. I have never seen Rune Klan perform however from what Chris S was told me he's fantastic. But I agree with Bob Kohler's comments on it being restrictive. I personally don't use any gaffs in my card repetoire, but that's simply because my favourite effects don't require them. I certainly wouldn't turn my nose at any gaffed effect. I suppose I'd call myself a purist at the moment, but that could change at any time.

I don't think a purist is somebody who strives to make his effects look like real magic, because then every decent magician would be one. You should always be striving to make your effects look at good as possible, not just leaving that to the "purists".

Hi Adam,
Thanks For the Info! As for Performing Just about all you Routines Ungaffed. I would have To see Each routine Sleight, And Gaffed/Sleight Side by side To see which looked the best! IE. The cleanest and Most magical Looking! If the ungaffed handeling looks as good as the gaffed/ sleight handleing then by all means use it! Even if it does not look as good sometimes you have to use the ungaffed handleing Becase of grabers Or outher things!
A friend of mine Uses a Lot of ungaffed stuff becase he said's he is just too lazy to carry
and put the time into lurning to use the gaff! ( I am not saying this about anyone on this Forum that just what he said's about himself!). He does carry A shell with his 4 coins And 3 china Coins! I am not saying the ungaff can't look as good, just that you have to take it on a case by case bases And not make a blanket statement that most ungaff stuff can look as good as the gaff/ sleight
handleing!
And Sure Every Decent Magicion Want his stuff
To look like real magic! So maybe Every Decent Magicion Should Be called A Purist! The Rub Comes in What You Mean By the Words "Decent Magicion"! Sure A lot say that But IT's Easier to talk the talk then to walk the Walk!
As I said In my frist Post I don't think the
Definition of " Someone who does not use gaffes is Fine"! But those are Just are Opinions! And My Opinion or your opinion! No one's Opinion is the last word on it! So there is no period that's it! Ok So for the next thoughts on it ------->
