Check these out...I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend and will pick some up. wizardsapprenticemagicshop.com
I got back from the AAU TKD Nationals held at the Broward Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale yesterday. I was there on behalf of the folks I work for of which we are the proud sponsors of AAU Tae Kwon Do. On Friday the 6th, I made it to the Wizards Apprentice Magic Shop in Hollywood, which is just down the road (on US1 and Hollywood Blvd). This was my first visit to this shop and it was quite the surprise. The shop is small is size but it is well stocked and the "sales wizard" Stan (I think that was his name) was demonstrating some card magic to some willing customers as I walked in. He was showing an effect he called the "Pea Shooter". The spectator chose a card and signed it. Then the Magi sandwiched between some jokers and then folded the sandwich lengthwise into a flat tube and handed it to the spectator to blow thru it directed at the deck on the counter top. He obliged and then the magi unfolds the card tube only to find the signed selection has vanished and reappears back in the deck. I said, "wuz up wid dat?" and everyone had a big laugh!! So the sales wizard asks my name, I tell him Dominic and he asks if I need some help. I ask if he had the book "Expert Card Mysteries" by Allen Sharpe and he tells me that he had just one copy and sold it a few days prior to my visit. Man what a big disappointment!! So, I asked to look at the books and he asks if I was into magic and I replied that I was and that I was into cards and he says, "Yo, that's my favorite shtick too!" He shows me the book section, and tells me to browse all I want and ask any questions if I needed to, and he went back to the 3 dudes at the front of the shop. There were a lot of books there and I was like a kid in a candy store. I found a book I was searching for quite awhile...Peter Duffie's "Effortless Card Magic", so I grabbed it and hightailed it back to the front of the shop. I was pressed for time has I had to get back and meet some people for dinner at 6:30 PM. So I asked if he had any Richard Turner Gamblers Cards. He said, "yes," so I picked up 2 decks. The cards are made on Bee Stock with the usual great quality that they are renowned for. There are 2 Jokers with the same size "stars" on them (not the large and small stars) a blank face card and a double blank card is also included. The backs are not too exciting showing a Westerner (is this Richard) sporting Western clothing and a six shooter. It doesn't appear to be a "one way design" and I haven't had the time to really look at the back to see if it is. Any hoo, it's too bad I was in such a hurry because the shop opens at 12 noon and closes at 8 pm and I could have asked the sales wizard (I'm bad at remembering names let alone remembering routines ) more about that Pea Shooter effect which I'm still at a quandary about. Maybe I'll e-mail him and ask. So, if you ever are down in South Fl. make it a point to check out this shop and ask about Pea Shooting. Cardamagically, <<<KRaZy4KaRdZ>>>Dom :)

KRZ4kards - The effect you described sounds like one out of the Art of Astonishment series by Paul Harris.... I do not have the books right in front of me here at work BUT I do know for a fact that it is in one of them. It is also on the 5 tape collection of his works.
I will repost specifics later on when I get home - unless someone already an fill in the blanks for me. It is a great trick. I performed it numerous times in my last restaurant.... Cheers, JPV

Yeah, I e-mailed Wizard's Apprentice and he left me a message on my phone. It is indeed an effect called "Super Swindle" page 281 in AOA vol II. It's also the first effect on the first DVD of Pual Harris' (Stars Of magic) DVD set. The name Peashooter is what threw me off.

As much as I like Richard Turner I don't really want his face on the back. Nice cards tho.

The cards are of great quality. Nice feel, and handle very well. If you don't mind, or the back design fits you, I think you will be quite happy.
I have used them for numerous effects, and don't really get comments on the back design anyway. If I do, I mentioned that my great grandfather was a dealer in the poker rooms of Montana (which is true... and for SOME reason gets nods of "ahhh"). RevJohn |

RevJohn thanks for the review, I'm really tired of always using bikes or bee's
