I’m very pleased because I’ve been your hottest topic and the world’s. It makes me famous. Thanks to Ssucahyo who started promoting me in this forum." It seems to me that Mr Magic is the one ssucahyo is referring to, and he came here, not to stop some other local magician but to admit (brag) that he is that magician and to try and justify his actions. The only thing now is to provide proof that the person applying for IBM membership actually is the one behind the mask.

When I said " He only to try to stop...." He here is mean Sucahyo, not that MR MAGIC. It seems sucahyo has sent all the proof to IBM, so now the decision will be on IBM |

Okay, I see it now. Let's recap: "He" (ssucahyo) is trying to stop "him" (Henry Kappers) from joining IBM, believing him to be the Masked Magician he saw on Indonesian television. "Mr Magic" comes in, admitting to being that magician, but denies knowing Henry Kappers. Either Mr Magic is Henry Kappers and is lying about his identity, or the person ssucahyo saw is not Henry Kappers, but someone else (presumably Mr Magic). That's why the IBM is asking for proof of identity.
What still bothers me is that during all of this, Henry Kappers was accepted into IBM while this dispute over his application was going on. I thought the whole idea of publishing names of applicants in the Linking Ring is to give all the members the opportunity to speak up if they had a problem with an applicant. Ssucahyo has such a problem but it may be too late. If Henry Kappers is the "Masked Magician" then IBM has an even more difficult time expelling one of their members, rather than simply not admitting him in the first place until the dispute was resolved one way or another.

I have the same understanding as yours. I think it will difficult to have visual proof that Henry Kappers is the mask magician who expose the secret in Indonesia televison. Different with Valentino who opens his identity by himself. From what I heard there is a meeting among the Indonesian magician with him including the Television company to stop his program. |

It doesn't take a mentalist to read between the lines ......
Henry Kappers, Mr. Magic, Ginger Bread is the same person. IMHO......

Unfortunately, the word of mentalist won't hold up in court. " Trust me your honor, I have a feeling. I wrote it down in this sealed envelope..."

If you see the clip MR Magic, he only wearing half mask and only in his front face, and he did talk on his TV show. This is very obvious who is he, especially for their friends who talked and met with him before.

IBM should answer this soon regardless whatever the decision will be . So this case can be closed.

IBM is a volunteer organization as far as the process goes, so you are depending on people who are not in the same location, and not paid full time personnel looking this over. I would imagine the entire process would take considerable time.

Has there been any update to this? I'm curious to see the outcome, these types of individuals are really despicable in my opinion for exposing the working secrets that keep many of the individuals in our community employed. The problem with them is knowing when to stop fueling the fire though, these type of people live off of attention, and since they can't get it from being a talented performer, they seek in other ways such as exposure.

Well it’s now March 19th; any word from HQ on this guy?
I hope the actually did something about the issue. Even when I was a kid and caught some of The Masked Magicians specials I loved the performances, but I felt like something was stolen from me when he showed the method.

Matters of honorability within the art and secrecy are implicitly tied to magical organizations.
Volunteer organization or no, it is shameful that after all this time (July?) no conclusion has been reached, considering what the organization is supposed to be about. It sounds too much like they wish the topic would disappear or be swept under the rug, I certainly hope, as an IBM Member, this is not the case. Has anyone alerted the President to this lingering issue? Magically, Walt |

This was never intended to be "swept under the rug." In fact, we took this very seriously. Dear fellows,
This below is an email I get from Mr. Evans the Chairman, Grievance Committee of IBM, date on 23 April 08. Dear Cahyo: I am writing you again as you apparently didn’t receive my email to you in January. I got your email address from the Magic Café where I just happened to be browsing when I saw this topic. I apologize if I sent it to the wrong address and I am sorry for this late response. The bottom line is that the complaint procedure should have been made BEFORE the Masked Magician was granted member status. Now that he is a member, the Grievance Committee believes it is not proper to punish a member for things he did prior to becoming a member, since the new member took the oath and agreed to abide by the Code of Ethics. For all we know, the member took the oath and intends to abide by its provisions. Unless this activity has continued since he has become a member, we are not inclined to punish him for promises he hadn’t made at the time of his acts. Moreover, your DVD only included him walking on glass, something we think is a stunt and not a magic effect. Again, I apologize for the delay in getting this message to you. I wish you would have contacted me personally on this. Sincerely, William E. Evans Chairman, Grievance Committee International Brotherhood of Magicians |
