I was talking with a buddy of mine yesterday, and we were discussing kaiju (giant Japaneses rubber monsters, i.e., Godzilla) and our affinity for giant rubber suited mayhem. Anywhoo....as we were talking he suddenly jumped up and yelled "Holy c**p! That's it!!! You should make a full sized "Godzilla" appear!"
I laughed at him at first, but then I started thinking...how in the heck would I make a 400 foot giant reptile appear??!??!? Sure I could use "Statue of Liberty" like methods....but for a real live audience....how the devil would you do that? Black Art? Maybe I could use the same principles as like an appearing car or something... Yes it's goofy...but wouldn't that be cool? I might be just extremely nerdy...

Define your performance environment. If you are inside and there is a window, several methods should suggest themselves. Tony |

Gamera the giant turtle kicks some good butt too.
Ghidra is cool as he is a space monster that destroys worlds... that is neat. I actually have a small collection of genuine Toho produced figurines of the major beasties... I keep thinking I wanted to do some sort of effect. I have used a small 3 headed slightly-glows-in-the-dark Ghidra figurine... I figured it could double as the representation of a Demon from the Abyss... the others (Godzy, Rodan, etc.) look to pure monster... and I used it as a seance focus object... the minor glow it gave off was kind of neat.

I have a pretty large collection of Gamera Action figures.
ALL the Japanese Kaiju films (but one) in both English and Japanese languages, VHS and DVD. Many of the Trailers in 16mm (Sold the features). If you haven't see the latest...Gamera The Brave yet head for eBay. It is excellent and contains the most realistic (Believeable) Suit-mation creature yet as it's villian. Gamera Guardian Of The Universe, Gamera Advent Of Legion and Gamera Revenge Of Iris are the three to catch up on if you only remember the ridiculously crappy OLD ones. Gamera is really neat. He is made of Turtle Meat.

Only movie I've seen with Gamera is "Gammera the Invincible" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434964/ His flying by spinning really fast around while breathing fire-skills are definately unmatched! .. I've got quite a few old sci-fi movies with plenty of people in suits .. as well as some real sci-fi classics..

If any version of Godzilla should appear, make it the 1997 version.. Okay if you can do that you can do anything. ( The 1997 Godzilla, staring Mathew Brodrick (Sp?) The Godzilla used in that film will be a challenge since it was more of a oversized dinosaur then a goofy looking rubber monster.)

Suggested Routine
Effect: Magician conjures a gigantic Japanese water dragon known as Gojira (Godzilla) The magician realizes he has a big problem, so he uses Creative Magic's Bigger Wands to try and stop the beast while leading the animal into a giant gimmick box ( Using unexpected spectators as bait to lure the beast) Materials needed: Giant Box, Gojira, live victims, Bigger Wands Patter ( YOur going to love this because the phase is simple and catchy!): "Godzilla! I think we need bigger wands!" ** Sorry for the joke, I thought it added a little humor. anyway, good luck on trying to pull this off. Let us (And David Copperfield) know when you succeed.

I love that the poster of this thread is thinking BIG!!! Most people would brush something like this off, citing it can't be done or that it can't be done WELL.
I say, keep thinking big! Nothing is impossible to do. I love dreaming up the most magical (outlandish) things a person could experience and then developing a working method for it. Nothing is too big for you . . . J.

I Agree with TT2 - so far, the biggest thing I've done is make it appear a Paramalfait swamp monster was roaming around in various ways... but I was serious about the gigantic footprints adding to the effect (I mean I am SERIOUS)... this is called Publicity Stunt material!

Hello,
Matthew, you might want to look at my thought exercise titled "Camp Dragon" in my PDF format e-magazine, "Other Stuff" Issue Four for some ideas that imply a dragon, which could be adapted to implying a Godzilla. Since I was first made aware of this thread, several other ideas have entered into my mind, including a couple of ideas which would go beyond implying a giant reptile and making one appear in a more visual manner. Sincerely, Dale A. Hildebrandt |

What about mounting a large flatscreen TV just outside a properly sized window... have the "normal" image just being what's outside.... and then .. you hire a young wizkid who loev to do 3d animatronics to animate a godzilla passing outside, looking in at the poor, unsuspecting people inside...
