Hey folks, Patrick Redford here.
I have four "new" phone effects that I'd love to demonstrate on some of you Café members. By new I mean expansions on five years worth of my work. Some of them I've been performing "as is" for years and a couple of them I've recently discovered work really well over the phone. Witness two demonstrations in remote viewing without all the mathematical "hoohaw!" Gawk at an uncanny demonstration in subliminal influence! Shock yourself when you give yourself the ability to memorize the order of your very own deck of cards in under a minute! Obviously, performing all four of these effects would take some time, so I'm offering (for a very limited amount of time over the next couple days) to perform two of these effects for you over the phone. This offer valid to the first five folks located in the United States that are available after 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time tomorrow evening only. If you're up for some fun, drop me a PM with your phone number to get yourself on the queue. -Patrick Redford |

Aww shucks. Bad time, bad day. I've always wanted to take part in these over-the-phone doodads, but I've never gotten in on SlimKing's either.
To all who get to witness the wonder, have fun! |

All,
I "PM"d Patrick (a few minutes ago) and he was kind enough to let me have a pre-emptive "shot". He performed two effects: (1) a remote viewing experiment: I drew four items (and told him what they were) and they were mixed around. He could not know exactly how they were arranged and yet he still was able to tell me which drawing was located where. A perfect (and impressive) remote view. Then; (2) Patrick asked to to write down those objects on a piece of paper and then asked me to forget about them (at least consciously). I did. Once again the items were mixed and the paper which I had written proved to be a "subliminal" prediction that matched the arrangement perfectly. I did honestly "forget" about the "list" and it turned out brilliantly. A lot of fun. Thanks Patrick. Great work from Patrick! Sean |

There are still three spots left on the queue. Water's got in for 'free' tonight. Really this post was for my own benefit.

Slim is the King of Phone, though I'm interested in seeing your work, Patrick. Sorry I missed your offer. Let us know more.
For those with The Black School, the routine EIGHT is fantastic over the phone, naturally I perform it often with wild success! And speaking of phone, Anabelle is finishing off another eBook and it includes a presentation that can be done over the phone quite nicely (P.L.E.T. II). I've seen it. Sweet. I also have a couple of effects on this upcoming project by Anabelle, one of which (The Devil in You) can also be done effectively over the phone. More to come... Just thought I'd also mention that over the past few months I've been having a lot of fun with J ack's "Fantasy Phone Experiment." Everything the same, J ack.

I like J ack's "Fantasy Phone experiment." It's also possible to perform the entire effect over the phone. It's quite fun, but not always suitable as there isn't always a deck of cards at hand.
When I set out to create over-the-phone mentalism I try to stay away from any kind of forced procedure or obvious mathematical methods to accomplish an effect. I strive for the same in person. Once someone has to switch the left with the right if somethings there or do nothing, count out their first and last name, one switch for each letter, move left to the first brown box, after surrendering one's first born...really doesn't rile me up much. A few of my previously published effects work well over the phone. My "Fantasy Animal Divination" from Consecution is impressive. Oddly enough, "Rain King" from Triangle also plays strongly over the phone. -Patrick |

I like the Fantasy Animal Divination for over the phone. I may have my daughter try it on the radio tomorrow morning. Of course, fantasy animals in Florida are a bit different.

But your phone effects have no kind of forced procedures or any mathematical methods? I've been around a long time and every phone effect I know comes with at least one of those or it's not 100%. There must be SOME sort of forced procedure? Do people just think things up and you reveal them? Curious. My own EIGHT (Black School), Max Maven's Out of Sorts, Ted Lesley's variations on Maven's Out of Sorts, Bill Goldman's Mental Yarn, Fulves, Steinmeyer, Banachek, Annemann, Aldo Columbini, Hilford, Knepper, etc... all these use either some mathematics or some form of procedure, like a list, a certain book, certain number of cards, certain instructions that must be followed. You mentioned your "Fantasy Animal Divination", I don't know it at all, but I'm assuming by the title that if you are going to divine some kind of animal, then that in itself is a forced procedure. Why can't they think of a cigarette brand instead? I'm assuming you ask some questions in this effect? An undetected forced procedure? A forced procedure nonetheless. Anyway, if you're creating cleaner effects than these people, I need to get some books! (Paypal ready!)

Perhaps one could divine a thought of cigarette brand over the phone. With a little work and thought, it could be done using a similar method to the Fantasy Animal divination. (btw, it doesn't require one to guess any of the letters in a word). Only three of the four mentioned effects in my original post are 100%, one of the four may fail on occasion, but even if it does it still comes off as impressive. The other two effects are not currently available to the magic public in the format in which they're being presented. I'm not really familiar with your work either, just a select effect which name currently escapes me. Some of my favorite over the phone effects include Hasterix, Reversal, among others. -Patrick |

I got off the phone with Patrick a short while ago, and I must say it was quite an impressive demonstration.
A great RV demonstration where the arrangement of drawings, as well as details on each drawing were revealed with great accuracy. Followed by a subliminal prediction that was perfect. My hat off to you, Patrick. (Who I might add was very polite as well). I sure hope I can make it to Mindvention now. -Jon |

Patricks material is brilliant and it is more direct and to the point than anything that I've read to date for telephone work.
I'm no big fan of currently published methods for telephone work as they are too convoluted, however that has changed as of this evening with Patricks RV Demonstration. One thing I have to say is that the kicker is killer. I would without hesitation be using it in the future. The memorized deck is a very impressive piece. I was sceptical that I'd be able to remember the location more than a few cards, however using Patricks method my hit rate was beyond what I imagined it would be. My thanks to Patrick for sharing some very impressive work. Best, Black

Thanks folks, it was a lot of fun tonight. Thanks for playing. I just finished eight phone demonstrations this evening and I must say I'm mentally exhausted. For the couple of you who didn't make it this round, I may be up for it again later this weekend. I'll keep you in mind. Thanks again.
I look forward to discussing the techniques behind the presentations at Mindvention 2007, see you there! -Patrick Redford |

Thanks for the response. Well, Patrick, I'm quite unknown. I make the bulk of my living as a Voice Over artist for the Discovery Channel, MGM, Disney, ABC, etc.... ( http://alexteixeira.voices.com ) I'm less successful as a fiction writer, but still working on it ( http://www.myspace.com/alextwriter ) I also perform as a Mentalist for private parties here in the South florida area and my corporate events are almost 100% for entertainment companies like ABC, Discovery, Disney, etc.... Since I already have an "in" with these entertainment companies as a voice over artist and they've seen me perform close-up mentalism, it's not a stretch for me to acquire these corporate accounts. The select effect that escapes you is probably EX NIHILO, which I'm happy to say will be making its television debut soon. I'll keep you guys informed. Banachek said of this effect: "A wonderful, great idea!" Jim Callahan said the release of this bothered him on a deep level and that it should've remained a personal secret. Kuffs said it was a real gem. On and on. In case anyone is wondering, for the time being, EX NIHILO is unavailable for sale. Other than that, my Black School book does fairly well and I'm proud of it, though a real pro would only be able to get a couple of things from it. My eBooks do ok. Mostly word of mouth though. The most successful of which are "Scoring With The Tarot", "Cartomancy Overnight" and my $5 eBooks. I look forward to reading your work and will be making a purchase soon. Maybe right after I finish typing this.
