This is an image of how I would like my new kid's show costume to look. I want it to match the rest of my kit but I have added the red to make me stand out more.
The blue and yellow of the spots and shirt will match my sign but the red shoes and vest will match each other (and my wacky wolf fun house and a couple of other props). The pants, which are not pictured, are black with red, yellow and blue and are 1940's style zoot suit pants that bulge out at the hips. Obviously this is a very poor Photoshop image that I threw together in five minutes but I'd like your thoughts on whether it works as a clowny, silly, children's magician. |

I know it's early morning here but I can only see yellow spots. "The blue and yellow of the spots......"
Perfectly all right though no different from many I've seen before. Typical shirt and waistcoat and fancy trainers used by many in the UK. Much will depend on the trousers. Is black really a good idea? It's a difficult colour - some take on a grey look after time and will 'knee' if you habitually go down on one knee for a four or five year old - develop a lighter grey shade in the knee area. Will you drive to the party in them? Black will pick up and show every bit of fluff going including cat, dog and other pet animal hair. Sadly, a smart dark blue trouser will do exactly the same - go grey on the knee and pick up the bits. I'd rethink the trouser colour. The outfit will reflect a flexible image of funny person, be it clown or other. That's why so many wear this style of outfit. Perhaps if you engaged the services of a costume maker they could produce a practical working design making the waistcoat and shirt look individual to you and the trousers likewise. Have you considered leather shoes and having them custom dyed to reflect colour aspects of your costume?

The pants are black with bright yellow, blue and red pin stripes and are the only part of my current costume I am keeping! Whilst black they are very bright and striking and get a lot remarks. I carry a clothes brush with me when perform so have no hassles with colours. But it is certainly worth considering.
I like the idea of the dyed leather shoes. I know a shoe maker who makes great custom shoes for magicians and clowns. Might get him to make them. |

Why yellow spots on your vest when you have yellow stars on everything else? I would think you would want stars "cause you're a star!"

Personally, I have to agree with the Cap'n here, Nick. You have an INCREDIBLE color theme going here with the blue & gold/yellow. Your stage design screams professional. Capitalize on that. I was told by an old pro early in my career to choose my brand colors and make them my own. Your entire brand is based on a very comfortable combination of blue & yellow with stars...why bring the brashness of red and dots into it at all? I can see where you're trying to go with the brighter color on your person...but, I'd advise sticking with your branded theme. Just my personal opinion.
Good luck with this, man! You're awesome! |

I like it, and I think that if you made no changes it would still shout professional, it would still shout fun, and it would still be obvious that you put a lot of thought into what you are doing.
It's the overall effect of the tables the cloths, the banner, and the general stage appearance that brings the whole thing together. |

I choose red instead of blue and spots instead of stars for the vest because I want to stand out from the background. I.e. I want to match but contrast.
My brand colours are blue and yellow (with a hint of red). Red props include silks, the fun house, my prop bags and even the big balloon I hang from my backdrop during the show. I'll do up a photoshopped version with a blue vest with yellow starts (and a red shirt I guess) to see how it looks. |

Then why not put a thin red trim on the posters and table to tie things together? Don't get me wrong, I think it is great as it is.

Throw a few yellow stars on the back drop........ I say, yes to the Red vest w/ stars. I think it looks great.
What type of back drop do you use? Is it semicircular? |

I recently had a custom vest made by Pricilla Mooseburger and the price was very reasonable and the quality very good. She's a well known costume maker that can make up a costume in whatever style/theme/colour that you'd like. Her website is:
http://www.mooseburger.com/pricilla/index.html While she makes costumes primarily for clowns she also does costumes for other children's entertainers. I like the look of your setup...nice and consistent and it does say professional. Take your costume to the next level and spend the money on it as well. Finally, a question for you about your hat...what kind of hat is it and why did you decide on black for the hat and red for the shoes? Just wondering. Smartini |

The backdrop is a spiderflex. It is pulled in a little in the photo but can stretched out much straighter. I want big yellow stars for the backdrops but I need to figure out a way to transport them that is 1) not too big and 2) doesn't damage stars.
This is option three: |

I know this is a question about your costume but did you design your set around the Meter or did Axtel design the meter around your set? I can't believe how well it all ties in together.

Smartini - The red shoes because black shoes are too dull. The black hat because a red hat would cost a fortune to have custom made to fit my GIANT head!

One might use matching colors on a website as well.
Thanks for sharing. Harris

How does your Spiderflex hold up for outdoor shows? I'm also wondering about the signage on your main table...what is it made of? Is this a Lefler table made beautiful?

I think you should do a yellow shirt under that vest.
Then, you should go with black dress shoes....or yellow fun shoes....whatever you think. I think Magic Dave from the UK has his color scheme down perfectly....all green and black. It's on his costume, dvd cover (for magicians), and on his website. Classy.
