Massive thanks to Uri for obvious reasons. But thanks also to Shipi Strang. Also thanks to Dr. Andrija Puharich. Here's a quote from "Taming the Poltergeist" which is a fascinating account of the scientific studies of Banachek's metal bending when he was 20 years old:
"Physician Andrija Puharich deserves credit for first calling attention to psychic metal bending abilities and associated presumed psychic talents" Thanks to Jim for starting the amazing Uri thread and thanks to Shipi and Dr. Puharich. If anyone present has not read "My Story" by UG then go get it right now. I think it will do more for the aspiring mentalist then 13 steps. |

That has to be the best quote I've read in years. I would like to get it tatooed on me but I bet it would hurt. |

Let me preface this by saying I'm sincere and not sarcastic when I ask - do you honestly believe "My Story" is more useful than "13 Steps" for a mentalist?
Can you elaborate? |

Hi Brainchild.
OK maybe I'm guilty of a little bit of hyperbole with my comment about "My Story" and "13 Steps" Basically I was referring to the adage that the presentation is more important then the method. I apologize if you didn't notice my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. |

You know I honestly wasn't sure what you meant. Something seemed a bit odd but now I understand.
And I completely agree. |

I have been a student of mentalism for quite a few years now. Over a decade even! (which still makes me a neophyte compared to many of my contemporaries).
As a teenager I got my hands on a copy of Annemann's "Practical Mental Effects" and I realized there was a whole globetrotting successful career layed out for me whithin it's majestic red covers. I proceeded to delve into the works of the greats and thereby chisel a smart little stage show as a mental miracle worker. That very show has helped to provide the funds needed for my somewhat exuberant lifestyle. A few years later I picked up a copy of "My Story" by Uri Geller. Nothing has been the same since that day. At that moment I stopped doing mentalism and started changing people's lives. DT3 |

I've been wanting to read a UG book for some time now. I guess I'll pick up "My Story". Thanks.

Annabelle, I think you will really enjoy it.
Another book you might want to look at is: Uri Geller: Magician or Mystic by Jonathan Margolis. I still think My Story is a much better read, but the Margolis book uses a "non-partisan" approach presenting the opinions of "both" sides. Cheers, Don |

Hi Don Theo The above plus your other statement: "Basically I was referring to the adage that the presentation is more important then the method." Have put a good frame around what you mean I recently did a thread about a similar idea http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=15 When it comes to building Myth and Legend Uri is the King lol If you glance at the link, perhaps you could say which of the 2 books you mention, I should buy first? Does either book give a good picture of his way of building Myth and Legend? If you can't, no problem. I'll be getting both of them Thanks for the insight TJ |

Hi TJ. I enjoyed reading the thread you referenced. For creating Myth and Legend I would definitely go with My Story first.
The Margolis book is much more recent, and after you read My Story, it will give you a good idea how Uri's Myth has lasted thru the test of time. Cheers, Don |

He has become a big joke, been exposed everywhere, and most people don't believe him anymore.. how's that lasting the test of time?

I'll save my response until you've read the book.
