It would be cool to do Fraud and the follow up with this without a bill switch.
Now that would be a great hand out. |

ULTRA VISUAL NIGHTSHADES REVIEW
It's finally here! After much waiting Ultra Visual NightShades has finally arrived on my doorstep. Below is my full review of the effect originated by Paul Harris and further developed into Ultra Visual NightShades by Mark Allen. FULL DISCLOSURE: I run The Astonishment Project, the exclusive place for Ultra Visual NightShades, just so you know. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with this for the last few weeks and thought I’d share a few thoughts… What does it look like? You borrow a dollar bill, take out a sharpie and draw a pair of sunglasses over good ole' George's eyeballs. Holding the dollar at the fingertips and at the edge with, the bill in full view, you give it a slight shake. The sunglasses flip up to George's forehead instantly and visually! Specs The bill is borrowed. The same bill remains in play the whole time, no switches or other funny business. The bill is handed back after the effect (again no switches) and can be completely examined. They won't find anything because there's nothing to find. The bill is left completely clean. The reset takes seconds. Personally I wouldn’t immediately repeat this for the same audience but there isn’t anything technical about it that would prevent you from repeating it. You're probably wondering how the angles are. Well, you can safely do this completely surrounded with people on all sides of you. Of course that wouldn't be any fun for the people behind you cause they wouldn't be able to see what's happening. So I would recommend that you direct the set of people to be head on as that's the best angle. But you don't have to worry about someone sneaking up on you and discovering the secret. Not going to happen. With the quick reset and flexibility with angles, this is perfect for table hopping, walk around, street magic and most other close up situations. What you get You get a DVD with full explanation of UV NightShades as well as explanations for Ultra Spinner (a borrowed pen spinning effect) and Ultra Peeler (an upgrade of Peeler). Also, you get the stuff. The secret stuff that makes all this possible. It only takes a few minutes to make this up (it took me about 5 minutes, it's really super easy to make). But once it's made you're ready to go. There is enough "stuff" to last you a long time and for you to make alternate gimmicks. The Scoop Ok, now that we have the technical stuff behind us, let's talk about the effect. Don't make this up unless you have an hour to spare. That's how much time I spent in the bathroom in front of the mirror just doing the move over and over. It's one of those, looks sooo cool and is sooo easy that you just want to do it over and over again. There is one simple move that once you get the timing down you’ll be tempted to play with this thing all the time. It really does look cool. The DVD describes two different scenarios. One is using a borrowed bill and the other is using your own bill. Before I got this I thought you had to use a borrowed bill to get the best effect but I was wrong. I've been getting just as strong reactions from just pulling a bill out of my pocket and doing the thing. Joe Russell describes both ways of doing things and the easiest way to get in to the proper positions both times. The viewer will no doubt adapt it to his own style. One of the bonus effects is Spinner and it allows you to spin a borrowed pen. This is a pretty clever idea. A drawback in the previous incarnations of PK pens was that you had to use your pen. They worked and they worked well but it's nice to be able to walk into a room, pick up a pen and make it start moving at your command. Now you can do that. Ultra Peeler is a cool little thing. I haven't made one of these up yet but I'm going to use this to have someone pick a card and have his or her name appear on the back in the peel. Very cool stuff, very easy. In speaking with Paul I asked him why there weren't any other variations on the NightShades plot explained or mentioned on the DVD. You could reasonably make George do a lot of things and you're not limited to a dollar bill or even a bill. You could use a post it, a check, etc. He told me that he tried so many variations and the one that resonated the most with audiences was the shades on George's eyes flipping up. There's something iconic about that image that really strikes a chord with people. I'm still excited to see what other variations and ideas others will come up with in the coming weeks. If you have any please email me at jason@theastonishmentproject.com. I'd love to hear them. So, all in all this is a cool little thing that I now carry with me all the time. Now when I want to do something all I have to do is pull out a dollar bill. It's a nice little moment of astonishment done on the fly. And you can leave them with the dollar bill. It only lasts a moment but the moment is one of high astonishment. It’s available exclusively from The Astonishment Project: http://www.theastonishmentproject.com/sh......_id=8837 Any questions let me know…. |

Anyone having audio problems with this DVD? The audio is nothing but chirps and glitches on mine. Can't understand a single word.

It seems that a minor authoring issue has popped up on nightshades that creates an audio glitch on certain Mac's and some of the older players. Playing the disc on a pc or a newer player should hopefully solve your problem.

Well, I'm on a MacBook and that's good news about the encrypted download, but at this point in time it's very easy to make a disk that plays fine on both platforms. What kind of authoring issue is it?

My DVD wouldn't play on either of my Dell computers - an Inspiron 9100 laptop and a Dell desktop computer. But, it played on my Marantz DVD player just fine.
