To anyone who's worked with it:
I'm considering purchasing the "Locked Deck", but am wondering if it's worthwhile. It's unclear whether the deck can be inspected closely. I don't know how this works yet and don't want to get stuck with another setup similar to "What's Mine is Mine" which didn't hold up very long. Is this also a trick that wears out quickly? |

I like it, good effect. Deck can be inspected but not very closely. It does not require a set-up and does not wear out, not sure what you mean by wears out.
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I used to perform this all the time and got to the point where I even handed the deck back to the spectator to allow them to look for their card. I never had the gaff detected. I did, though, tend to pick a woman for this effect ... women seem less intent on discovering the trickery. All-in-all a fairly simple "your card" to impossible location.

An interesting idea to do with the locked deck, is to subtitute a regular deck for a deck from one of the airlines, Delta, American, etc. Instead of a lock, use one of those baggage tags you get from the Airlines. Add to that a story about lost luggage.
You'll of course have to drill a hole in one corner of the deck. Craig

Or for my wife
Anyway, isn't this just using Svengali or Mirage? I don't have it but the principle seems it's just SD or MD with a lock.

Locally (Arizona) we've had a lot of fun using "recycled" decks from a gambling casino in a Locked Deck type routine. These establishments only use cards so long and then retire them. These retired decks are usually in great condition. The casinos drill a hole in the deck so it cannot be used again and then dispose of them.
Of course, the hole will accomodate the staple of a regular hardware store lock or a cord or shoelace. The obvious casino connection opens the door to all kinds of patter ideas. Julie |

That's good, it saves us time. Just need to find the rest of the decks

Ok, to make sure we're talking about the same thing, is this the one with vanishing their choice of card, then suddenly it's not in the deck but elsewhere? In the shoes is one of the fave one I guess. No palming or switching either.
If not, then we have some misunderstanding.

Hand the deck to a spectator and they cut the cards. You then riffle through them until they say STOP. Show the card they stopped at.
Now close the pack and show it has a small hole drilled in the bottom right hand corner. Hand the spectator a lock and keys and have them lock the deck and hold on to the keys. Snap your fingers over the deck and make a magical jester, then hand the deck to the spectator. Tell them to look for their card. Their card has vanished from the deck. You then produce the card from an impossible location. Of course you have to get the card to the "impossible location"

No roughing? I always thought that this uses a Mirage where you can spread and hide their choice of card.

With a little imagination you can perform the basic effect without a gimmicked deck...

Ahimsa, Vlad PS: Those of you who have Robert McDaniel's The Royal Treatment will know of his effect The Joker Knows. Add in the locked deck with this and you have a SCHWEEET routine. Also, the locked deck CAN be used walkaround if you know the M.O. |
