Dear All:
I am engaging in some sociological research on mentalists and mystery entertainers and have devised a short (10 questions) survey to collect anonymous data from all of you. I am keen to show tendencies, averages, etc. across my response categories. There is also room in the survey for free text entry. If you want to take part, go here http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=pJ......MQ_3d_3d The password is metaphysical Thanks for your help! Todd |

In the part of your survey that deals with influences, you don't say whether 1 is low or high, if 10 is the highest influence, etc. Since you don't specify, it's not possible to adequately complete the survey.

Hi Anabelle,
From what I understand the poll is open for a month from today, at which time Dr. Todd will complete an informative review. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on this Dr. T) DT3 |

Nice survey but waiting for the results.Actually there should be a number zero indicating inability to comment. For example though I know a little about Fogel but have neither seen him in action nor read any of his books.I should have rated him as 'zero' instead of 'one'.

I will be using this as part of a longer essay on mentalism. |

Because they all wrote to me and I can see it in the results.

I would suggest that this is not an accurate or valid survey given that you have absoulutely no idea how many who particapate are really involved in the craft, or how many replies are from the same person.
This is akin to those companies here in the UK who stop passers by on the street, asking them for their opinions about various products. Those results are flawed in that they do not target a specific age group, gender, etc. It's a shotgun approach to conducting research and the results will not be accurate. The methodology used in this "survey" will not produce a true and measurable result given that you absolutely have no idea if those who particiapte in this are actually who they say they are. Given the public nature of this forum, and the open door invitation, your results, at best will more than likely be tainted. If you're looking for an accurate result, or at least one that is going to be better represented by the community that you are involved in, e.g., mentalist, why not restrict access to those who perform mentalism; or get in contact with performers via email and ask them to take part? Good luck with the results, whatever they might end up being; just please don't be under time assumption/impression that they will turn out to be as accurate as you are hoping for. |

While the idea is a good one, the results needed for his thesis will not be accurate given the rather wide paramiters he has set up for this, e.g., and open door quiz without verification that those who particate fit the requirements, e.g., that they are who they say they are, e.g., mentalist, or "Mystery Entertainers". It's bound to be a good exercise I suspect, but again, the results will of little value, in terms of "pure" socological research, which was the stated aim and perpose in the first place. |

So, exactly what is his thesis statement going to be?
Is the aim "pure" socioligical research, or are you reading "pure" into it? I noticed that I could not log into the survey again from this IP address.

Or was that incorect. Ahh , how did you get your Phd ??? suggest you start again I am interested , but really, this is rediculous.... |
