According to MagicTimes, Derren Brown's new show (at least in the US) is premiering Thursday July 26th on the Sci-Fi channel. Hopefully soon he'll tour the US with a stage show (hint, hint Derren)

Is this US series all new material or the UK stuff repeated?

LauraCalder - It's selected clips from his uk stuff that they thought would be suitable for usa audience.

I thought it was a new version, produced in America by the Sci-Fi Channel.

Anabelle:

The below from Meir Yedid's email list suggests that you are correct:

"...The highlight of the week should be the premiere episode of Derren Brown's new series that was shot in the US and for the US market. The first of the six scheduled episodes takes place in a mall a few miles from our offices. We'll see if he can have as big an impact here as he has in the UK...."

"In the largest mall in New York State, Derren turns over 300 befuddled shoppers into his puppets by using seemingly innocuous shopping announcements made over the public address system. Also, Derren decides to go shopping himself...but he's forgotten to bring any money. Fans of his UK show may have an idea of what happens next.."

There are some clips from the UK shows, DB classics re-created in the US (eg. the advertising guys done at Saatchi & Saatchi in NY), as well as new US routines.

I love his work, I'm interested to see how he is percieved by the american public... It will be fun to hear their views and opinions on him. Get ready for the English Invasion America!!! Next they'll be wanting our bloody Queen...

I hope this will be shown in the UK too...it's going to be fascinating watching Derren do his Trick of the Mind material again for a different audience, just to see what changes and modifications he'll make given the passing of time.

I'm perplexed to see people on various forums suggesting (and even hoping, it seems) that Derren won't "go down" in America as well as he has done in the U.K. Not in this particular thread, I'm happy to see.

Even if he never performed on American shores or the American public never saw him on television, Derren Brown would still be one of the greatest Mentalists who has ever lived, in my opinion. Few could turn in the consistently high level of performance he has. He is an Artist of the highest order, and a good person, to boot.

It might even be almost as good as the upcoming Angeller show.

Will this cause an increase in American audiences seeking mentalism type shows? ....hmmmmmm

But in the U.K. it was on a major network, not so in the US.
Hopefully that will change.

Derren has to play the game, one step at a time.

As I said, even if the network isn't smart enough to bite, he's still brilliant.

Perhaps it's because of the Derren Brown series and the success expected of it that we will soon have "Angeller' most likely on a major network. I'd like that, more people would see me perform.

NBC, the network working with Geller and Angel on the new series, also owns the SciFi channel where Brown's show starts on Thursday.

You perform? Have you heard anything on the audition process yet?

I also hear that there will be free popcorn, hotdogs and balloon animals for all the applicants!

(I'm just referring to the Angeller show, not Derren's. Even though DB is filthy rich by now he still refuses to spring for snacks.)

I can't wait!
