Here's the skinny: "IT HAS been blamed on fast food, genetics and a sedentary lifestyle. Now research suggests obesity is "socially contagious" — and your friends could be making you fat.
A study of more than 12,000 people found that having an obese friend increases the risk of becoming obese by up to 57 per cent. Having an overweight brother or sister increases the chances by 40 per cent and having a heavy spouse by 37 per cent. The Harvard Medical School research, published today in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, found that even having a fat friend hundreds of kilometres away can affect a person's weight." Talk about timing! The story goes on at: theage.com.au.

I think it was the late 80's or early 90's when people decided to mind everyones business but there own. Men started to be less manly, women started to be more sick of men being so fem. Even the military had to wussify to get members and to cater to their sensativities. It sickens me. I just don't bother them about their multiiple piercings which look stupd, women with tattoos on their lower back that looks like a tuff of hair, boys wearing their pants around their knees like some jail house sissy and thinking they look fresh from 'da hood'. This is all stuff they do to themselves yet they want to be critical of others. What a shame. Like Charlie Daniels said, what this world needs is a few more rednecks.

So Harvard wants fat people alienated now?
Guess what geniuses, the reason most people are fat is because they eat the wrong foods or too much of the right food and don't get enough excercise. I know that, I don't need a journal to say that. Is this suppose to shock people? Now I think some people are born predisposed to being heavy (I don't think I am one of those, I got fat the old fashioned way, ate too much and not moving around) the same way some people are born gay or prone to cancer or with some artistic ability that is just built into them. I worked with a guy who was 6'4" and weighed in at almost 400# and he could move like a large deer and dunk a basketball. He was always big and nothing he does seems to take weight off. Then there are guys like me who have no excuse (well, I've a little one since I can't walk well due to arthritis) but there are other ways and I just need to get out and do it. That doesn't mean, by the way, that I'll put up with some wise mouth commenting. |

I heard about that story today. When I was a kid there where no video games, no computers and we were allowed to play tag at school. Now kids spend most of their time with thier friends playing video games and on the computer and tag is not allowed in most schools.
Speaking of tag, did anyone else hear about the 2 13 year olds who where ARRESTED for slapping some girls on the butt on "Butt slapping day"? They have been arrested and spent 5 days in juvi and are looking at 10 years in PRISON and being labeled as SEX OFFENDERS for the rest of thier lives. Atleast one of the girls has admitted slapping one of the boys on the butt BEFORE he slapped hers. WHY WASN"T SHE ARRESTED TO? WHAT THE H3LL IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?????????????? |

The problem is that more women are not slapping me on the butt. Who cares about those guys going to jail, they're not me...... yet.
People are always willing to dispose of rights, freedoms and common sense, as long as it's something they personally don't feel the need for.

This brings up a (probably) unrelated funny bit of human devolution.
In Yakima a police chief has been on the news discussing the seat belt law. Now his discussion had to do with the need to wear them, and the reason why the police are "stepping up enforcement" of said law. Now for those who have comprehension problems, when an officer is looking out specifically for red cars they might not see the blue cars. So, this officer says (Basically): "It is important that we make certain that everyone is buckled, even late at night. It has been proven that drunken driving is a major contributor in traffic accidents and fatalities at night, so buckling up is our priority". I was astonished. There are drunk drivers out there, so you are looking for UNBUCKLED drivers. We (Civilized society) are just plain stupid.

I hate drunk drivers. Feel free to insult and make fun of drunk drivers all you want folks. From where I live to get to anywhere is a one lane highway (I know, can one lane be a highway? The answer in Nevada is yes). Along the highway are crosses for those that hit other cars head on or hit rocks or just flew off into a ravine (we don't have trees to hit). When you have two cars hitting head on and each one is going 65 to 70 miles an hour the people in the cars have more to worry about than if one driver is chubby or not.

Kregg...that is fairly bogus and I can prove it...being a Hermit, I don't have any friends...fat or skinny and I'm over weight anyway. So neener.
Actually Jeff just about everything is wrong with this country...but because the PC crowd has succeeded in de-masculation and uber-psuedo-feminization we're not allowed to POINT at the real problems out of fear of being thought of as a Racist, Anti-Immigrationist, Nationalist, (name your accusation) while all the silly hystericaly weak Harry Reids opperate with impunity as if they are the new Hall Monitors sent to stifel the very things that made us what we are. In an enforced Multi Cultural Society it is everyone elses culture but the one who gives them ALL a place live Freely in the first place, the one that WORKS. Pandering is the new National Passtime...but the seathing IS taking place and eventually the crap doers are going to get what they deserve...a Punch In The Mouth...and the shocking revelation that we don't give a sh*t about their PC world or French Socialism or ridiculous Flying Imams or anything else they want to shove down our throats...we are wasting our military on the wrong dirt...but hey, I wont live to see it but I'm alive enough to say that the truely revolting Harry Reid and his ilk are even a disgrace to ****ants...here's the question...When did Democrats allow their party to be taken over by this pathetic bunch of pansies? Being neither a Republican or Democrat it is a question out of curiosity more than anything. :)

Me: "By the way of course maybe I'm joking...maybe I don't really have oppinions other than what I'm allowed to have."
You: "You can't really think that way...do you?" (spoken in true horror while backing up clutching a Poodle dressed in the colors of Spring and wearing an 'I Heart Vermont' hat...) I mean really, you can't think like that, it's not right...what if 'THEY' get mad, don't you care what people think?" Me: "Not in the least...SO WHAT and here's a punch in the mouth for being stupid."

Have you read the little "book" inside Orwell's 1984? It's online so freely available via google search.
So why are we discussing symptoms as opposed to exploring the problem? Magician, fool thyself? Mugglevision?

If you look at the state of politics today all of Mr. Orwell's predictions have come true.

Al, those were not predictions but observations of principles in action at the time (1948) with only a few minor name changes made to make the story palatable.
How are folks doing on the reading? Questions?

When I was in High School, 1984 was presented to us as a warning about what Communism would lead to.
This was, of course, a limited and biased view. Orwell was in fact observing the tendency towards totalitarianism by superpowers of ALL political stripes, whether Communist, Fascist, Monarchist, or any other "ist". The mechanisms used to assure control of the population are the same regardles of the "brand name" of the government. The ones that come to mind immediately, through a 35-40 year filter since I read the book, are: 1) Total control of information media. 2) Total dependence on the government to supply all needs. 3) Divide and rule. 4) State of "Constant Emergency", (in the case of 1984, the "emergency" was a perpetual war). Jonathan, help me out, I haven't picked up a new copy yet to re-read this, but did I remember the main points correctly? Hmm gee there's something spookily familiar about that list...
Woke up.
