I would like to find a method to produce a 24" silk lets say red, use it for a ball production and change it bare handed (or as close as I can) to a white and use it cleanly.
I know at least one person will say look it up in Rice. My response would be where in Rice? |

DO ANY PRODUCTION for red, do your ball production, drop hand to waist stealing white load in right hand start rolling red into a ball vanish with a silk pull, build up the effect then simple expose the white one.
it doesn't sound all that jazzy but it plays well. That is just the bare bones if you were using a smaller silk I would say use a sinada or a clips but 24" needs a larger gimmick, so a hank pull will do. |

Silk pulls are certainly under used. They are very effective. (And you can even make your own from an old plastic Easter egg.)
Odd that magicians shy away from pulls because "everyone has seen that" yet they spend hours on new routine using a double lift and false shuffle. Sometimes magicians are the ones not dealing with reality. The audience came to be entertained with a trick. If you are exposing the methods, you're not really a magician. Hi Darkwing:
What about using a dye tube and rolled up paper? You show a piece of paper, roll it up into tube, and produce a 24 inch silk. The tube could be unrolled and shown empty - rolled back up and silk stuffed inside. Out it comes from the other end, having changed color. Tube is opened up and shown empty. Volume Three of Rice's has a chapter on silk dyeing - lots of ideas on how to manipulate an Al Baker style dye tube and paper. Also, I think you can still get an Al Baker dye tube from Silk King Studios. Lock Family Magic also sells a Massal Dye tube. It's basically the same effect, but with the dye tube built into to paper (or plastic). I hope these ideas help you. Ron |

I made my own, long piece of elastic and a rubber band at the end for atachment, or you can just use a bulldog clip on the end of elastic

Take a look at Rice, Vol 2. Page 722, "Semantic Silks" by Albert Griggs. You might be able to adapt it to what you want to do. For the production, I'd suggest a variation on Rice, Volume 1, Page 59 - "From the Elbow." I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe it was called a "Popper" move. You just pop the silk up from the elbow into the air and catch it. No gimmicks, no fuss.
